Hey guys, thinking about buying an 03 M45. I fell in love with them the first time I saw one. It was like everything was moving in slow motion as it drove past me...

I appreciate all the advice on what to look for in buying a used one - burning oil issues, potential gas gauge problem, trunk release problems, etc - but I want to know, how will my new baby do in the snow? We don't get alot of snow around here, but enough just to be a pain in the a$$. Still gotta get to work on those days....

Thanks,JayB

Welcome to NICO!

The M45 will do as well as any powerful, rear-wheel drive car in the snow. I.e., you will have some fun slipping and sliding, unless you get some snow tires. The VDC does, of course, help in extreme situations, but is not a complete panacea.

My advice to everyone in this situation is to get a set of cheap steel wheels, and buy a set of four snow tires - swap them back and forth each snow season. Almost any decent, load-index-correct, snow tire will do. I have a list of possibilities in the Basic spec sticky in this forum.

With snow tires, you will not have any problems (certainly no more than any other RWD car!)

Without snow tires, the car wont move. Turn off the traction control and have some fun!

I have owned a 2000 Q45t and now an M45. It hasn't been much of a winter in RI this season, but the few times it was icy or snow on the ground my M has been fine even without snow tires. My Q45 was awsome in the snow too. It was one of the reasons as to why I purchased my M.

Infiniti looks like they got it right with their traction control system. That coupled with the fact that I've been driving in the snow for 16 years makes for an accident free ownership with both cars.

I've had Acura's and a Lexus in the past and those cars even with the Acura being front wheel drive did not perform as well in the snow as my 2 Infiniti's.

We've been through a few feet of snow so far here in central Illinois and the M is holding up perfectly. My friend who has an Audi S4 has gotten stuck a lot more than I have. The VDC is great once you get going, but it can be a real ***** sometimes trying to get going... occasionally you have to turn it off and punch to rock it out. The car is heavy enough that it stays planted in almost every condition. I'm very impressed.
