Recently brought my 03 M45 to diagnose a grinding sound from the rear upon accelerating in reverse. Dealer replaced the rear cross member and crewed up by over torquing and broke the bolt that holds it in place. Now sent to the body shop for further repair. Miss my M (sob)

1) How could his happen?2) Has the integrity of the car been diminished?3) Will I be expecting any future problems related to this?4) Truly the G35 loaner feels like a piece of crap. (literally)

Ouch!

1. and 2. I do not know the answer to these. Hopefully, one of our technical members can comment. I will post a request and ask ...

3. Depends on how good a job they do repairing/replacing the bolt and its location, I would guess.

4. Definitely no comparison ... particularly on the inside and the engine sound and feel.

just the bolt broke? should be as simple as drilling out the part of the bolt that is stuck and replacing it. i dont see how there would be any leftover damage to the vehicle, maybe the crossmember itself should be replaced but i doubt it.

maybe there's something i am missing, but i dont believe that any of this would result in loss of structural rigidity or even value to the car...

If it's as simple as a twisted off bolt then it's not too serious. The rear x member is a unit, so even though it assists the structure of the vehicle replacing it shouldn't have any negative effect on the vehicle.

should be no biggie... just drill out the bolt and be done with it

I'm gonna visit the body shop tomorrow to make sure we are all on the same page. It's been in with the dealer 2 weeks and body shop for 1 week. The manager says that other vehicles need to be moved first before mine is being worked on. Come on...3 weeks that's ridiculous. Guess the welding takes longer than expected. I miss my M45 (sob)

btw thanks for the input guys--greatly appreciated.
