I dunno ...
Having been in an accident (head-on), I can tell you that the seat-belt (which I and my passengers always wear and keep tight) worked completely well enough in my case, that the front airbag was not needed at all.
All that the air bag deployment did (I did not impact it at all since I sit well back in my car!) was create a large puff of corn-starch(?) and chemicals right in front of my face ... that I ended up inhaling after I took a deep breath (my chest was compressed by the seat belt). I almost choked to death on that crap!
I do wish that they was a way for the air-bag to not deploy, if the seat belt is on and is tight. Waste of money in low speed collisions too!
