well i just picked up a 03 350z and i put cold air intake on it ever sense then it acts kinda sluggish and what not i have custom exhaust on it with test pipes

i took it to get the cold air intake done at the muffler place and they say i should put the catalytic converter back on cuz i dont have enough back pressure

should i get the z retuned or should i put the cats back on and get the factory tuning like they said

but ya another thing the cold air intake i got in a aem cold air intake any of you have it and ever have a problem with idk water geting up to it cuz i was driving my car today and it was raining and all of a sudden my z wouldnt let me go over 2.7k rpms it would bog down or do nothing if the rpm's where higher then that

Ya anyone know whats goin on here because i was going to do the same mods on my 06 in the near future but if its gonna mess stuff up ill have to switch it up a bit so do all these mods really result in not enough back pressure or anything else?

You do have a problem, but it's not your cat's. You can run ANY car with almost Zero back pressure. I had the same issue with my 2007-Z. Take it to the dealer, and have them check the MAF sensors. I had the same problem with mine when I was going down the freeway the day I bought it. I was going, and then it wouldn't let me go past 2,500 RPM. I pulled to the side of the freeway, and let it sit for about 10-15min., and then started the car again. It ran fine all the way back to the dealer. When they checked out the car, the passenger side MAF sensor (2007 have 2 sensors due to the dual intakes) had a wire that was bad. The on board computer puts your car in "Fail safe mode" when it see's something wrong, so you don't ruin your motor. It might run fine again for awhile once you start it again, but i'm willing to bet that if you take it in to the dealer, they will find a bad MAF sensor.

Backpressure is a bull**** "excuse" made up by people when they put too large of an exhaust on.

Like cuffuup28 said, you can run a car with little to zero backpressure. What you NEED, is velocity. If the exhaust piping is too large, there's no velocity, and the exhaust fumes don't get "sucked" out through the head.

(^over simplified explanation^)

Anywho, I would suggest what the above poster said, check the maf sensor. If that isn't it, have them run the codes.

It's the sensor connected to your intake. Same problem on my 03' (Injen)What kinda exhaust are you running? If it's the stillen, and you are also running race pipes and headers you'll get into problems w/ back pressure. But the problem you are having is the sensor.

ya cuffuup28 after getting home and parking it for a bit i went back out side and turned it on and it acted like nothing was wrong with it at all cuz it runs perfectly fine now lol it scared the **** out of me when i freaked out like that on the free way

well im not to sure on the brand of exhaust but it has 2.5" pipes i believe but ya after getting the maf sensor checked out and say its that you think i should get the car retuned cuz its runing kinda lean and its kinda sluggish off the start and if i where to get it retuned how do i go about doing that

sorry kinda new with the whole tuners i believe thats what a z falls under lol

this is my first kind of car like this i use to drive a 66ford mustang fastback so its a lot different

sorry if i sound kinda noobish here just trying to learn

re-setting the ECU will do a little for ya. "tuning" the Z will require either a piggy-back or a stand-alone ECU.

Piggy backs are much cheaper, and for your power/mod levels, this is the way I would go.

Stand-alones get much more in-depth tuning, thus you can do A LOT more with them.
