Hey guys,

I have a new set of Dunlop SP Sport 900's on my car (275/18 rear and 245/18 in the front) I have no idea if the idiots that put these tires on didn't balance them or what but they are so loud it's starting to make me go nuts. It's not a wheel bearing but a loud tire sound. Like a hum and waaaaaaah, just this annoying low pitch that can make you want to scream. My Z needs an alignment, could this be causing the loud sounds? I would hope it is not the tires problem, they are pretty expensive performance tires. Is there anything else that I haven't mentioned that could be causing the problem?

Tire balance wouldn't make any noise, it would just vibrate and cause weird tire wear if it is really bad. And your alignment wouldn't cause what your hearing. What you ARE hearing is the tires. Some are louder than others. Take for instance all the trucks you see with those huge tires, you can hear them just about over their exhaust. It is just how the tire is.

wow. thanks for the help. these tires are reeeeeally really loud... they have a lot of tread so i'm guessing they may quiet down when they wear in or just get worse? Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

Those are directional tires. Just make sure they're mounted in the correct rotating direction.

I didn't even bother looking them up, but yeah, if they are directionals and they are mounted on the car or rim wrong then that could also be the cause. Just look at the sidewall for <==ROTATION== and make sure the arrow points towards the direction they are rotating.
