My brother in law is considering buying a 03 - 04 G35 sedan w/40K+ miles. Don't know a thing about these cars except for being fun to drive (drove one once when my car was in the dealership). Was told by sales at the dealer that getting a 100K extended warrentee was not necessary due to the car being "so good". The extended warrentee I bought for my 92 really paid off in several ways during ownership.

Any advice is appreciated.

I bought an 03 sedan last september, and the car has performed above and beyond. Apart from winning several awards for most reliable engine, the interior is beautiful, and the performance amazing.

Warranties almost never pay off, that's why they sell them. The earlier G35's have a couple little quirks, but nothing worth writing home about. For example, the CD player in the earlier models is about as fragile as a pop-stars psyche. If you play CD's that are burned on a computer, or from another country, or pretty much anything that doesn't come from Best Buy, it'll want to get jammed. Not saying it WILL happen, just it has happened to several people. (PS - Always check CD player in a used car before you buy it!)

The engine can take as much abuse as you want to give it, but the interior and electronics (like all cars) will wear down if you abuse it.

Who am I kidding....the car is like God came down here and handcrafted the thing himself. In the 8.5 months I've had it, I've put 20k miles on it. And I still get excited every morning when I get to drive it to work.

I picked up an 03 sedan a few months ago. 60k on it now, 3k of it is from me. I love the car, seriously. As mentioned, the engine is solid but the electronics are a little funky... Another thing to look into is brakes. The stock ones are crap (when considering the power and weight of the car). One thing id recommend is taking the car to a mechanic before you buy it. I went through 2 03-04 6MT sedans before i found one in realllly good condition. I have a friend that has his own car shop so i just brought them to him to check out. Its too bad this one doesnt have gps and heated seats but it is in like new condition!
