I keep seeing extended warranties for the 03-04 M45's mentioned, what is the going rate these days? I'm thinking of purchasing an 03 with 40k miles from an Infiniti dealership and would like to get an idea of what price I will be offered. Also, how does Infiniti's extended warranty program compare to those available from a credit union?

I have been quoted 2100 bucks for an extended warranty. I have 60k on my 03. That was a full coverage warranty. I decided to take the chance...

Honestly, you really are better off saving the money in a high yield money market than you would spend on a monthly basis for the warranty. I wish I would have done that. It just seems like they make it cheap enough to get, but barely worth the costs. I have the platinum 48k miles or 24 months. I have not used it and I am close to being through it entirely. I paid about what you list above....in my opinion it is a rip off.

I'm buying it with my 04 even though it only has 22k miles. It's only $1,800 for a $100 deductible that covers for 5yrs or 75k miles. If any of the electrical stuff goes bad, it will be expensive to fix and I won't be able to do myself.

Was that from the dealer or another source?

I paid about 1500 inclusive of taxes for mine for 3yrs, 48k, 0 deductible.

My 03 had 26k on it then and I figured it was worth it. I do not plan on keeping my car beyond 3 years so hopefully it will work out and by then I'll probably have around 60k on the car, which is not bad at all

$1350 for 5yr 60k mile from the credit union and it has already paid out $2600 in claims. Did you know it costs like $1400 to replace your CD changer? I do!

Long ago I paid $1200 on Q extended warranty paid out $6,100 from 70k-99,999 miles. Things are more reliable to 99,999 now but still with the proper motivation you can always get your monies worth.

Think AC or transmission or electronics.

$2,000 for extra 30,000 miles is a very good deal.

That's a really good deal from your CU! Mine quoted me $2000 for 4yr/48k warranty that does not cover the CD changer... I'm hoping the Infiniti dealer will step up and offer me a better deal. Does anyone know if the extended warranty from the dealer is price-negotiable?

You do not have to buy it from your local dealer. There is a dealer in Phoenix that'll sell you the Infiniti plan for around $1,600. Arizona limits what the dealer can make on the sale of warranties. I forget the dealer name. Just call around.

You may well get lucky and may well be right. One those "YMMV" situations ...

However, and this is my concern, in modern luxury cars (whether you have an Infiniti, Lexus, BMW or Mercedes, or ...), the amount of expensive electronics has climbed to the point where NOT having an extended warranty is simply not a good idea anymore. Assuming you keep (or plan to keep) the car past the 60k or 4 year point.

Just price a few of the things that can go wrong (for example, the NAV system on a M35/45) and you will see why the Extended Warranty may well be cheap insurance in that situation.

High yield money market fund is a oxymoron

I could definitely see the value in a $1600 plan that does cover radio/CC/CD changer, etc. Was it Infiniti of Scottsdale by chance?

If the original owner had purchased the Infiniti Extended waranty it is transferrable to you at no cost. I did this when I bought the car FSBO I went to Infiniti to transfer the warranty and they charged me $50. After 2 weeks they sent me the check back and said it was tfranferrable for free.

That is relative to what a CU would pay. Check it out for yourself. http://www.bankrate.com rates vs your local banks. It should be an oxymoron though! haha

My beef with the warranty is that-

Most of the stuff could be replaced/ rebuilt for under 2Gs excluding the engine or transmission. In that case I do not know if the entire engine is covered anyways. Just multiple parts within the engine. The NAV system is outdated. You can buy a new system with DVD GPS(the works) for less than 2Gs. Did someone actually say they spent $1600 on a CD player??? That is NUTS!!! It could actually stay on and be messed with while driving. THat would be nice. Either way my car seems to run perfect. The only time I am sure it will break down is when the warranty is expired. I only have 30k or so miles to go before I am out of warranty or a year is up. I am just about 100% sure that nothing will happen in a year. I guess we should do the numbers on this to see who has gotten their money out of the warranty up to this point. So far I am at $0! That is going to be the best gauge on this topic. Does anyone wonder why they are in biz? Also, why do they send me flyers every few months to get a new warranty?!?!?

Oh well...this is going to be interesting!Kyle-to play the devils advocate

It was me with the CD changer, not saying I paid it though. That is what the warranty company paid to have it replaced. To date my warranty has paid out about $2600. This included replacing the CD changer, replacing a light control module and replacing the gauge cluster and fuel sending unit. I paid $1350 for the warranty so i am about $1250 to the good. With the warranty I got the whole engine and transmission are covered too, except the throttle body for some reason.

So you are the first that I have known to get moreout if it than it costs. I guess I need to start having problems with my car. haha

Anyone else?

Infiniti of Scottsdale: 866-374-2645

Ardmore in PA is supposed to be good too: 800-749-5517 (ask for Bill Dixon)

Just for the public knowledge, I was quoted $2271 by Scottsdale for 4yr/48k with $100 deductible for a '03 with 42k. Considering this car doesn't have the nav I'm going to take my chances....

Wow...they're the guys who quoted me $1,800 for my fully loaded 04 with 22K on it.

It's a conspiracy... I'm sure it was due to the mileage differential though, and they didn't even ask whether I had nav or not. It sounded as though any '03 within the 40k-50k bracket would be the same price.

I have the same warranty 4yrs/48k miles with a $100 deductible. I think it was around 2k. My car had 43k miles when I got it. So far since I've had it they have replaced the fuel gauge, lifter motor on driver seat, and cd changer. I think its paid for almost half of its cost so far.

I got my quote for 2 years/24K and I was just just 60K and at the end of my four years. So there are several different plans.

I got a 5 yr / 60k warranty about 6 months ago at Infiniti of Lisle (IL) for $2,300. My car had 29,000 miles on it at the time. After you hit the 30K mile mark, there was a big jump in price and max coverage was greatly reduced.

So until Sept 2012 or 89,000miles, I have piece of mind that no repair will cost me over $50.

As an independent we rely on owners not spending money on extended warranties.

When their warranty is over they shop around when quoted the dealer pricing and $40/hour less is meaningful to the poor.
