just got off the phone w/dealer to schedule my oil change. Mentioned the ITB-02048 upgrade. He said since mileage was 56K I was out of warranty and I'd have to pay. he was a service writer and kind of a jerk - mentioned 'getting stuff of the internet...blah blah" I read him the serial # and he agreed that my car was in that group of cars but, again out of warranty. I mentioned it was infact a "power train upgrade" which has a 70k warranty. He said he look into it when I got there. Any thoughts from the group.I remember when I first got the car, I thought that the 'response" from the pedal was not right....iexpected more V8 and less cadillac. when I got a g35 loaner I was stunned at how responsive it was.

thanksMark

I'm just repeating what the service guy said....

Just checked my registration and it says "year first sold: 2001" which confirms the next sentence.

48 months back from 02-2006 put me at 02- 2002....if the car was sold in the fall of 2001. then I'm out of basic warranty.that's kinda why I posted...you know us aggies aren't that bright.

So I'm back to square one.....what's my angle....safety issue. really a power train issue....help

Man that stinks... With something that "simple" it seems like theyd cover it... Its easy to convince nissan to cover things out of warranty

Anyway, id keep trying, maybe call another infiniti dealer and see if theyll do it.

If the car was in during the warranty period, you might be able to make a case that they dropped the ball by not automatically taking car of it or offering it to you - kind of pie-in-the-sky, but they should be on top of these things . I think your argument of it being a powertrain issue is the best though. I would talk to corporate to see if you can get some assistance if nothing else works - they will probably be extra-sympathetic since it won't cost the factory anything... just the tech's time to upload the software update.

So much for the 6yr./70K waranty.

If it was in once for the fix or a complaint, you may have a precedent.

2001 must have been one of the first ones sold and is probably elegible for the pedal update too. Check and see if it was performed.

Pee in his coffee and find another dealer.[Oops, did I say that?]

With Infiniti's stellar customer satisfaction numbers, I think you'll benefit from finding another dealer. You dont want to deal with an attitude like this down the road when you need other services.

"since it won't cost the factory anything... just the tech's time to upload the software update." That's the rub the factory pays fewer hours for the same job than the dealer charges for customer paid work.

The dealer charges the factory or you for every second of time.

Still these software changes can't take more than a couple of customer paid hours.

Good time to learn how things will be in the future. Obviously you haven't had all your oil changes/services/tire balancing done at that dealer to build up your record of customer paid good will. Not stopping by ever 90 days has a downside as you near the warranty termination date.

There is a secret to getting dealer employees to look out for you and your car during the warranty period when infact they can persuade Infiniti to pay easier.

Excellent points from all.In fact, since i got it in set 05 i've had everything done by them religiuoly. And this same service guy dropped the ball on my first compliant on oil ussage. I came bach at 3k and said "ok here Iam check it" and the serv mgr said 'well you didn't come back at 1500. I said nobody said to. he chked and sure enough there were no notes except my comment. He n/c the entire service and said come see him directly at the intervals. each time he had me in and out in 15 minutes.I worked at a dealership during college and have some understanding of the whole warranty/private pay process.I also have an extended warr.

I have all the tsb printed out and agree that they should be alittle proactive. afterall, they do bill the factory (under warr.)

thanks

mark

Sorry, I missed my appt...had the flu!!

But will be going in toward the end of this week .My service writer dropped the ball a couple of times and the service mger really does a great job.So I'm going to appeal to his since of true cust serv.here's my approach....

1. Since I came in the minute I bought it to get 'all" the current service work done, and have come back every 3k as scheduled....why didn't this service bulliten get done or asked about?2. they repaired the squeak in the driver side front end which ws a tsb.3. gravel......4. the hesitation has almost gotten me killed!!!! (taking the 'safty' angle)5. It a drivetrain issue. period. I know the 70k warrenty is intended for enternal parts but come on!!!! it's splitting hairs. Basic warranty 48/60 is for power windows, lights, seat motors etc.

Good luckmark

Dealer just called and said my car didn't need reprograming. Do you know the range of Vin # it applies to. My 02 was built in May 01. I smell a rat.

I posted the original TSB in Infiniti Online Mechanic.

Improvements were incorporated into later year production models.

Vehicles built before JNBF01A*2M006185 on the pedal replacementcant find the engine cuntrol module one

Good News!!!!read stratagy above.........follow up-stopped by andspoke directly to the Service Manager Rick at Sacramento Infiniti, said to bring it in next week. (i missed my schedule appt last week due to the flu) It looks like he will install the computer upgrade if it has not been done. And at no cost....it seems. We talked about the "power train being 60month/70k and it looks like that's how he's going to do it. Rick is a straight shooter. I told him I could leave it now w/57980 so it was under 60k miles/48 month and he said that was ok. bring it in next fri when I was back in town. I'm on the road the next couple of days and they don't want the loaners going out of town for road trips. So far I am pleased.

The dealer could not program my TCM as it is the first version (31036-AR100). I would need to replace the chip. I had the throttle pedal change and there is a noticeable improvement. As anybody paid to upgrade the TCM and was it worth the money (around $1000)

I figured its a worthwhile one to pay for. sucks to be me since I bought the damn car without looking into these little things. Lesson learned. Lets hope my baby rides better !
