Two things I can think of right off the bat.

1) Has the timing belt been replaced? If it's over 100k and hasn't been replacxed then the engine is on borrowed time. It's about $1000 for the dealer to do it with all the extras that should be done at the same time.

2) It the knock sensor bad? If there is a code, the CEL might not be lit, then the SC output will be reduced. On NA trucks the knock sensor didn't really affect performance but on the SC trucks it will reduce boost pressure and reduce fuel mileage. The sensor is located in the valley but there are articles online that detail how to relocate the sensor for easier replacement in the future. Basically the sensor gets cooked in the valley and will continue to fail until it is relocated. It seems all the trucks from that era had bead sensors. Hook up a scan gauge and check for active and inactive codes.

Otherwise they are excellent and capable trucks.

Thanks for the info!!! I'll pass it along.
The only thing that I could remember from when they came out is that the SC didn't add as much HP as you would have thought.
Good to know that it is a solid car. My friend is a BMW/Mercedes mechanic (what he did in Mass before moving to NC), so he can fix about anything. He used to live across the street and buy/fix/flip cars on the side. So, I got to drive several fun cars when he was there!
