I have a '02 Xterra 3.3L V-6 that is giving me all sorts of fits. It first started when I would drive it for about 30 mins and whenever I came to a red light it would stall on me. A couple of times it stalled out on me when I was driving it but not giving it any gas and it seems to do this right after I let off the gas and the RPM's drop way down. The problem has gotten worse over the last couple of days and now the Xterra sputters and hesitates real bad and I can't get it over 15 MPH at times. When this happened I put it in park and it idled fine but when I got the RPM's to 2500 it started to sputter and hesitate. I turned the car off and started it up and it ran fine again for about 30 mins, then it started sputtering again. Any ideas on what this could be? I had the fuel filter changed and a new fuel pump put in, changed the spark plugs, and checked the MAF sensor. When I took it to AUTOZONE they pulled the following codes: P0328-Knock sensor, P0103-MAF sensor, P0600-AT communication error. Any help would be great.

I would clear the codes and drive it. Then check to see if the codes came back. Also for grins with it warmed up and idleing wiggle the wires at the MAF and see if the engine stumbles.

Check for rips/tears on the air intake tube between the intake manifold and the mass airflow sensor. Sometimes if a motor mount lets go, it'll rip this tube, and sometimes they just crack on their own over time.

I was having the same problem and couldnt figure it out. It got a lot worse soon after and I had to get it moved to a mechanic, where they didnt know what it was either. They said it was probly the distributer and wanted $450 to replace it, but they couldnt guarentee it would work. I got one on ebay for $130 and put it in.(easy job) When I took the old one out and took a better look, I could tell right away, it was fryed. There where bits of metal under the rotor. I put the new one in and was driving like a madman once again.
