I checked my oil about a week and a half ago, and noticed that my oil was low, So I finally had time to stop by Valvoline this morning and get my oil topped off. I'm only 2000 miles into an oil change, and the guy tells me I'm nearly 2 quarts low! Not only that, but about 4-5 days ago, my "Service Engine Soon" light came on.

The car has about 68.5k miles on it, and has a drive train warranty until about 105k. Any know problems that could cause this, or any course of action I could take to prevent any engine failure?

Check the sticky. There's an infamous precat recall that can pretty much only be fixed with a header, in spite of what Nissan says.

Nissan owes you an engine.

my car did the same thing. that is why they stop makeing the 2.5 liter spec v and went with the 2.0liter. one thing that really helped me was buying the JWT balance shaft removal kit. It allows the motor to hold an extra 1-2 quarts, plus u get like a 6hp increase, it was only like 90 bucks.

Well, the 2.5L is now back in the Spec V and the 2.5 Altimas and Rogue, but it's TOTALLY redesigned. The problem laid in the rings that Nissan used in the QR. When they switched suppliers, the problem went away.

actually the problem your talking about is the 06 2.5l engines catching fire, THAT was due to the piston rings.

everything else was due to poor precat design/Elimination of an EGR and poor intake manifold design with the butterfly screws and the ease of them coming out on their own.

the reason is because the 2nd oil ring does not seal properly and it put oil in the chamber and it gets burned. you can solve this by putting a aftermarket piston set or just changing the piston rings. its up to you. good luck

Well, Nissan has had so many issues with the 2.5L that all the problems are starting to mix...this was all explained by a Nissan North America teacher...whether it's catching fire or burning oil...it's all a BIG issue that Nissan SUPPOSEDLY has fixed.
