I just had to replace my 02 Sensor on my Infiniti I30 1996 again. I had replaced it about 15 months ago, and less than 15K miles, so curious as to why it would fail so quickly

Are there any reason other than a bad sensor that would result in such an occurance? Anything to do with fuel mixture or catalytic converter etc?

OEM and quality O2 sensors typically last 100K miles. However, mishandling during installation, such as dropping it, will drastically reduce its lifetime. Also, oil and coolant contamination (due to engine leak), exhaust leak and road grime can degrade the O2 sensor performance.

A universal O2 sensor, if not properly spliced, eventually leads to poor connection and O2 sensor failure.

op, were you absolutely sure it was the o2 sensor? a lot of people like to point to it first as the culprit. like loystock said, the sensors usually last a while and if they were handled correctly.

Thanks. No it was surely the O2 Sensor. It was code PO130, which translated into Bank 1 Sensor 1, or the sensor closer to the firewall in the car.

I just had it changed, and I it was changed about 15K miles or around 18 months ago. I will just have to watch and see. I plan to take it in to see if the Catalytic Converter is running fine and also the fuel mixture.

Thanks for the advice. This board is always very help. Happy Holidays Everyone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's good to know that you are taking good care of your car. Some people tend to ignore a failing O2 sensor which could be very expensive in the long run (eventual 'cat' failure).

Did you use OEM O2 sensor the first time it was replaced? It's too early to fail within 15K miles. The best pricing for OEM or quality O2 sensor is from "NGK.com," a.k.a. "sparkplugs.com."
