The "service engine soon" light came on steady today. I scanned with the OBD II scanner and got the DTC # P0158.

P0158 definition is "O2 sensor high volts" Bank 2 sensor 2.

How hard/expensive it is to fix this problem?

Which section of the FSM should I look up to find more information about this?

Thanks much.

Where exactly is "bank 2 sensor" located? Is it the driver side after the catalyst converter?

Does this problem affect the performance of the car?

Sensor 2 (bank2) is the sensor after the converter. There have been a few cases of water getting into the harness that connects to the rear O2's on that model. When you unplug the sensor, look inside the connector and see if there have been any traces of water that have entered the connector. If no water has been present, (most cases). Replace the sensor. The rear O2 sensors are for monitoring the cats and doesnt affect engine performance. Using the Consult 2(scan tool), to verfiy the repair has been successful. Performing this requires some knowledge of the Consult scanner. A brief description (cruise the vehicle at a steady speed for a couple of minutes, pull over and manually richen the mixture and you should see a voltage increase, then decrease to let you know the ECM (electronic control module) is receiving the correct information. 99% of the cases on that model, the sensor is the failure, and replacing the sensor fixes the concern.

Thank you very much autotech43.

I have been reading on this, but I could not find any information regarding which side is the "bank 2 sensor 2".

Is the bank2 sensor 2 is on the driver side?

Bank number 2 is on the passengers side. Also there is a Infiniti Tech Bulletin on that particular code. (ITB02-008) Reprogramming the ECM may apply to your vehicle depending on the control unit part number. The rear bank 2 O2 sensor part # 226A0-6P104

Thank you for reply,

I read that ITB.

Is there a way to know my control unit part number without bring the to the dealer?

Any consequences if I just replace the 02 sensor and not reprogram the ECM?

Your ECU part number should be 23710-3H000

Looking at cross reference charts it also says that the following part numbers are cross compatible.....

23710-3H00123710-3H008

The VIN number may or may not get you the correct part number if the ECM has had a prior update. The only thing the VIN can tell you is what the part number of the ECM that was factory installed. I-30 vehicles are going as far to having to match the air flow meter part number, then determines which ECM update is chosen! We are getting ECM (engine control modules) and TCM's (transmission control modules) out of the box ordered by VIN, that require the reprogramming after the installation. You will better off going to the dealer and have them use the Consult 2 and get the information right the first time, then there will be no question as to the update, part number etc... It's less than $100.00 to get the ECM reprogrammed at most dealers. As far as the consequences about replacing the O2 and not doing the reprogram, the MIL light will come back on in the near future. Reprogramming the ECM just changes some of the parameters for setting off the light in your case.
