Lookin at an 02 Q45 with 70k on it. Dealer is offering a 3/yr 36k mile bumper to bumper warranty for $2400. They require all work to be done at the Infiniti dealer. Assuming that they will honor the warranty, is it worth $2400? I drive about 20k miles a year so it will run out less than 2 years from now...

Put the $2400 in a SEPARATE savings account dedicated to Q maintenance, add $250 per month to it every single month you own the car, and you will have the reserves needed to properly maintain your Q for as long as you own it.

the only thing that would be super nice is in case an electronic device goes out... otherwise, 2400 will get you a long way, and many of the typical expenses youll see wont be covered by warranty anyway...

Hard to guess what will fail because the number sold is small.

I would say you have $4500-$5,000 at risk [dealer pricing] roughly why the oem warranty is priced at half 50-50 therefore they make money. The dealer gets a big chunk as a sales commission.

Remember the oem warranty has an advantage because they get a contractual discount on warranty hours vs book hours.

You can buy the Nissan backed extended warranty from any Infiniti dealer.

Check with Courteny at Infiniti of Scottsdale (she has posted in Infiniti General) and I'll bet you will save at least $600. I would definitely recommend it on a 2002.

Remember to evaluate the common non warranty items that start to go after 60-70K:Tires. Brakes, Shocks, Rubber hoses, belts, and suspension isolators [to give the smooth ride]. There are almost 100 individual rubber isolated pieces of metal hidden in a Q.

These components are usually the prorated bulk of annual expense

Just got a 95 Q from Florida with 75K miles. I can tell that the maintenance was not kept up to recommended levels and am trying to find out where to get started. I just got a engine flush and oil change with mobil 1 as well as the trans flushed. I have a 96 lexus sc400 and maybe I have been spoiled by it because my Q doesn't feel nearly as powerful and smooth or maybe it just has some bugs to get worked out. I talked to a service rep from Nalley Infinity and as I expected the prices for service were expensive. I see you are in the Atl area also and seem to be experienced with the vehicle, do you know any mechanics that specialize in the Q you could recommend who are knowledgeable and reasonable? Thanks

Call T-3 on Cobb, I believe. You want Byron to look at your car.

Great place for your SC also.

See if you can get the cost down to $2,000 and read the fine print on what the warranty actually covers. Also, ask if the warranty cast will be reimbursed (pro-rated) or not if you never use it.

I need to ask, seldom, Have you personally experienced or know someone specificly who got reimbursed????I have a little experience as I have an insurance license. In the term life business rop(return of premium) is a 40% upcharge. so how does asking to get the cost down AND asking for rop work???

to the op, my extended warranty covered aprox $3500 of repairs between 70 and 100k. rear end work and twodifferent electronic boxes. I had paid 1300 something and there was a $100 dedductable. interestingly, I have not had a part failure since a ballast went at 110K. I currently have 179K on my 02 Q45 sport.......oh the MAF went out last month...that was $300.

I got my aftermarket warranty through CNA and have had nothing but good things to say. I have hade my sunroof switch go out and fry a motherboard, fully covered. I also had my passenger front wheel bearing go out, fully covered both D+P bearings at the same time.

Keep the HID ballasts in mind those go for 800 bux a pop and mine started flickering at 71K, still working at 83k with a little flickering every now and then.

I only paid $1795 for my warranty and I can take it to any shop I want, and mine even covers belts/gaskets and all non-wear related components (tires, brakes, wipers, fluid changes) even electrical, I have a $100 deductible though. The warranty has paid for itself in a little less than a yr and a half.

Good to hear your already got your monies worth on your extended service contract.

The cost of ESC are heavily inflated and if you don't negotiate the cost you're a damn fool. lol Nissan offered me a ESC that gave a pro-rated refund based on whether or not the warranty was every utilized and how much of it was used.

Just got a 02 Q45 from a guy who had the CNA warranty from carmax and they are top notch. too bad they only sell the warranty through dealerships. I kept the car for about a week and sold it because some guy offered me $1000 more than what i paid for it so then i cancel the warranty and received a check in the mail for $850 which was like %40 of the remaining warranty. that was my 2nd Q45 in the space of 2 months

Just be careful about non Nissan service contracts as we have seen dozen of such companies declare bankruptcy and go out of business in the last 10 years. You just never know who has adequate reserves.

The other problem is the ones in business try to nickel and dime shops and supply non oem parts for expensive repairs if possible. We no longer deal with any of them. period!

I've got an '02 (built in '01) and have sunk a lot of $$ into it since 70K miles;

1. Replaced right rear axle

2. Rotors all around

3. Left Exhaust Manifold

4. Getting rough idle now when on a slight incline and an occasional stall (in turns and sitting at a light). Just today it went into a very rough idle at a stop light but went away after a couple of quick revs.

Any tips or quasi-diagnosis is appreciated on that one; I'm hoping the timing belt is not starting to go....

5. Occasional flicker in the HID's but nothing that indicates impending failure

6. Starter and Backup camera have issues on cold days

I just hit 120K miles; it's not my main vehicle but I put up with it because I like the vehicle so much.

I would get the warranty

What's the point of having a warranty, if no reputable shop will honor it?

Extended warranties are like going to Vegas - You may occasionally do better than breaking even, but on average, you end up losing. Why? Because the odds are stacked strongly in the house's favor.

With a Nissan warranty you can always find a friendly person [how you insure this is up to you], to more than return your money during warranty period by find marginal and obscure things that have failed or are about to fail with help!

They know your future better than any non dealer technican because they see so many equivalent vehicles.

I heard someone got a brand new transmission at 96,000 miles.

You must replace what you know will fail after 100k to breakeven and make a profit.

Even in a casino, you have the chance of knowing a friend who works there as a floor/pit boss...............some one who knows which slot machines are full. Especially after they have watched them for 6 hours.

Just knowing which blackjack/dealer is weak is an advantage.

Expect to spend $500 in get to know you cash on lunches, drinks, envelopes, etc.
