The stock Bose system in my car is acting up. It does this on CD, Tape, FM and AM... Occasionally, all my speakers go dead quiet like I muted it, sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes for a few seconds. Volume control, cycling power and cycling inputs has no effect. When it goes silent, it may intermittently exhibit this behavior off/on for 10-15 min.

All other operations of the stereo seem to be functioning during the silence, just, no sound. Then, the speakers just come back for good, like nothing ever happened.

This has happened 3-4 times in the past 6 weeks. Prior to this, I had no sound issues that I can recall.

(I have made no modifications of any kind to this car or stereo)

:gotme

Any ideas?

Your car has a power amplifier in the trunk under the sundeck. The radio and CD Player funnel their signals back there. Assuming all speakers a going out at the same time, I would check for loose connections or a loose local ground connection there first.

This is what I was thinking as well, some type of loose connection. Before I tear into the car (for the 1st time), I just wanted to see if there was some common problem I may be overlooking.

I've been curious what's behind that panel anyways.

On a side note, my powered rear sunshade usually sticks (stuck) when down, perhaps I can figure out why that is while I'm in there checking audio connections.

My sun shade fails to raise all the way sometimes after baking in the Florida sun. Works ok after it cools down. It has a current sensor that stops it if it encounters an obstruction. There is a service bulletin to correct broken clips, but it really doesn't apply to our situation.
