Ladies & gents,

My 2002 Q45 Sport is in need of a new rack and pinion but I don't want to pay the high dealership prices. So here is my question:

Should I pick up a re-manufactured unit from Ebay with a limited warranty_OR_should I get a new unit from Autozone with also a limited warranty?

Has anyone had this experience?
Thanks!

Titus only has the best of the best. So i think your better off getting it from an infiniti dealership. Solid warranty, solid parts, OEM and MADE for YOUR car. Infinitipartsusa.com. And no offense, why are you driving an infiniti and worrying about prices mang? Try a hyundai, cheap parts, cheap crap, cheap to fix..... no offense.

The reason I ask is because the last time I picked up an Autozone part, the part actually turned out to be better then OEM. It was the front endlinks and the Autozone part was solid!

I just thought someone might have had an experience with the rack and pinion from Autozone?
Thanks,

I heard there is a place called rack doctor. They have done good jobs rebuilding factory g50 racks so maybe they could do one for an f50

I guess the question I have is what makes you think you need a new rack

I would avoid Autozone big time. You should check with some good independent mechanics in your area. I bought one for the 300ZX from my mechanic, the rack has a lifetmime warranty, cannot remember the reman company.

I had a 85' Maxima that the PO put in a Pep Boys unit and it lasted 2 years and blew out big time. I put in another local source reman that worked for the next 10 years without issue. I would also for sure see what IOS can do it for delivered.

I second the question what makes you think you need a new one? My Z's lasted 25 years and it was a notorious one to go bad.

I had it looked at by 2 different shops and they both confirmed that the rack and pinion was leaking. I can even hear 'cluncking' noises when going over dips and bumps.
