First off let me start by saying whats up to fellow NICO members. This is my first post so plz dont mind the "noob".
OK so i recentley purchased a 2002 q45 with 80k, what an amazing car i crossed over from a volkswagen gti to this and what a difference lol .Havent had to much trouble with it besides having to replace my sway bar links and starter solinoid a few months ago but yesterday on my way home from work my Q just died on me .I was at a stop light with the a/c on and the music up n the engine stalled out i honestly didnt even notice til i seen all the dash lights turn on. So i put it in park and tried to start it back up and it just crank over but would not start i kept at it for a min and gave up let it sit for 2 min and i tried again and got it to start but i got a check engine light and a message on the monitior saying to take it to the nearest infiniti dealer, then it gave a lil more detail and showed 8 pages worth of info basically saying check the gas cap i did get gas earlier in the day and im not to sure if the gas cap was tightly on there. i did go straight to autozone and got the code read and it thru a code for cam sensor.i disconnected the battery for a bit and started the car and the Check engine light was off i went back to autozone and there where no codes, i drove it around my neighborhood for bout an hour and nothing popped up. im wondering if the gas cap was the problem or should i look into new cam sensors....

BTW....one of the 8 pages did mention something bout a misfire i did put in regular gas i was thinking that had something to do with the low octane im gonna fill up tomorrow with premium gas and put in an octane booster .. any help will be greatly appreciated.. thankz

so i drove around all day yesterday and the check engine light didnt turn on but i did notice the rpm where a lil low in park it would hover around 700-800 rpm and in drive around 600-700 rpm it was real close to the 0. i decided to drive the Q into work today and it had no problem getting there but coming home was a different story. As soon as i got on the highway it shut down on me i let it rest for a bit and tried again and had no luck so i disconnected the battery and hooked it back up the car started rite up, so i attempted to drive off the highway and it shut off on the exit so i did the same thing and it started rite up i got a few blocks away and it shut off again so i disconnected the battery while i smoked and cursed the car out. i hooked it up and got it to get me home took it to get the codes read and its the same cam sensor code. so i picked up 2 sensors at a local parts place.what i found weird was the sensors are the same parts number do both sides use the same sensor? also i looked into the crankshaft sensor and that was the same part number as the cam.....Im attempt to swap out the sensors tomorrow after work does anybody have pics or know exactly where the sensors are or know any refrence points i know there near the cam but would like any help i can get as when i get home i dont have much day light to be searching around any help would be greatly appreciated thankz

First off, call your local Infiniti dealer with your VIN # handy and ask if your vehicle is affected by recall #R3021. I don't feel like typing the whole thing, but you can find more info here: http://www.autorecalls.us/aut-04/recall ... 48143.html

The cam sensors appear to be under the intake air duct on the front of the motor, kinda buried. Find the FSM page here on the forum and download your car's FSM (Factory Service Manual) for a more specific location.

Keep us posted...

ok so today i changed the cam sensor and what i thought was the cam sensor(what dealer direct parts said) but turned out to be a v.t.c sensor(what the dealer said) or i.v.t. sensor(what the fsm said) either way i finally got the part and its in. only thing i havent changed was the crank shaft sensor im do it tomorrow ..my rpm are still to low do you think since i left the battery unplugged all nite it messed with the rpm????.......so i took it for a 10 mile ride and it didnt shut off but does feel to be riding a lil sluggish im take it for another 10 mile ride tomorrow and see what happens. last time after driving 15 miles it shut off...i really dont know what else to check .what else would make the car shut off while its driving and not let it start..the only codes i pulled up last time where for the cam sensor . from what i researched only thing i can come up with where those sensors.....

btw...how do i readjust the idle...i know on my volkswagen i had to delete all codes and put the car in acc/on for a min then crank the car on is it the same with infiniti...i can only check a couple of the files on the fsm ....thanks in advance

Here's the procedure per Alldata:

1. Turn ignition to "on" position.
2. Turn ignition switch "off", wait at least 10 seconds.
Make sure that throttle valve moves during above 10 seconds by confirming the operating sound.

I would clean the throttle body prior to performing the relearn procedure with throttle body cleaner and a toothbrush. After cleaning, rinse thoroughly with tbc and wipe dry w/ a rag.

What does your rpm hover around mine are still around 600 700

I think my problem might have been the crank shaft sensor not only was the clip broken but when I pulled the sensor out it look dry and had lil bit of shavings in the crevices of the sensor . I put in the new sensor and went for a ride n it definitely got its power back. Im drive around n see what happens ...ill let you guys know what's up later

SPIN...one more question. i've changed out the crankshaft sensor with no success. im now about to change the camshaft sensor. i looked up the part and the 2 sensors have the same part number but after i pull the camshaft sensor the angles are different....where'd you get your camshaft sensor? was it a different part?

yea its two different parts theres only one cam shaft sensor and two V.T.C. sensors i believe the F.S.M calls it I.T.V. sensor....the camshaft and crankshaft use the same sensor.

i changed my spark plugs today and what a difference feels like a new car but noticed 2 things after pushing the car a lil bit the mph stopped working it was raining all day n my car has been parked for a couple days.Only thing i removed was the intake so i could get to the spark plugs im pretty sure i put everything back rite ....also i noticed my fan pump resvoir was low what do i put in there smells like transmission fluid or power steering i need to put somethin in but dont know what...

Lol there are 4 sensors all together 2 V.T.C. which are at the top of the cam rite under the plastics then 1 cam shaft sensor rite by the intake and one crankshaft sensor which is under the car ... the camshaft and crankshaft use the same sensor

ahh ok..that makes more sense. i've changed the cam and crankshaft sensors..car still not starting..what are these other 2 sensor responsible for? when purchasing these parts do i just go to the part store and ask for the "vtc" sensors. Are you able to post those pics yet or even email them to me so i can get the exact location of those other 2??

I have a 99 infiniti q45 and have noticed stalling when stopped at red lights, it doesnt happen all the time, but often than it should, fuel pump has been changed in january, fuel filter changed last week, no check engine light , but rpms run low on idle no shakes car is smooth, but rpms go lower and right before it starts to stall out if you pump the gas nothing will happen. then the car starts right back up afterwards.\
