02 Q45, backlight fuse blows in rain (occasionally)

I have an 02 Q with about 110k miles (185k km). Six months ago my rear lights went out. The dealer did diagnostics and wire inspection and replaced the fuse and it worked for a month or so.It happens on and off. I took it to a good independent I trust and he spent 4 hours looking for the problem but couldn't find any. He replaced rear bulbs thinking it may be the cause.The problem still exists. I have noticed a pattern, the fuse blows when I drive in rain (but not always). Couple of times I stopped and tried replacing the fuse but it blew right away. If I try after a day or two after driving in rain it works fine again. Can you guys advise what to look for?

These intermittant electrical issues are always difficult to find. I would try hosing the car down and seeing if you can recreate the issue... once the short circuit is constant you (or your tech.) should be able to find it.

Hosing the car worked to reproduce the problem. But the tech spent 7 hours with me but couldn't find anything. He checked all the wiring in the trunk, on the driver side floor, under the hood etc. etc. He tried disconnecting the front lights and rear lights but the problem was still there. He'll now try to take the front bumper off and look there.

After I got the car back my auto switch for light is not working. I have to turn the lights on manually.

I would get the service history and as much info pertaining to the car to see what was done to it, Then you will at least know what kind of shape the rest of the car is in.

Also look at the light harness for anything wrong as well as anything else that has copper in that area.

But its a 2002 Q45 for God sake you should'nt have single problem besides the commen one: Oil leak...

Well I got an email from a person I shall not name for fear of a law suit, But anyways I just don't want to get suied for thing I say, Or the way I try to help people.

Plus for the name, Thats was my real life nick name back in the day.

But there is always the IP address that you can use to track some one and you can't hide that easily.
