Good evening to all,

My '02 Q45 air conditioner compressor went dead!I was wondering what other parts need to be checked out or replaced while I'm replacing my a/c compressor?

I appreciate everyone's support and help in this matter, thanks!

Seems too early for a compressor to fail. So how did you verify that the compressor is dead?

I totally agree that it's too early for the a/c compressor to go sour so soon. When I press the a/c it works and then dies within minutes, and sometimes doesn't even get cold; I can even feel and hear the compressor shutting on and off...kinda sad. It's also coming from the location where the compressor is located. I'm verifying this by feel and sound alone.

The bottom line is I'm not getting consistent a/c flow. So far, I found that I would need to change out the 'drier' whatever that is?

What do ya think?Longlivetitus

Maybe low on freon, causing compressor to shut down? Worth paying for diagnostic check before assuming compressor is worn out.

Absolutely... if it cools at all, it is typically a refrigerant/leak issue - not a bad compressor.

I took my car to Firestone this afternoon, and they did confirm that minimal power was coming from the compressor. It is a bad compressor and will need to be replaced.

I suggest you get a 2nd opinion, from those specializing in heating and airconditioning or any reputable car shop. Several members have had bad experience with Firestone - replacing multiple components with no fix.

I wouldn't take a Ford to Firestone never mind a Q. I am surprised crappy places like Firestone, Monroe muffler and tire... are still in business.
