I posted this in the tech forum a while a ago and didn't get a response.

Lately on my '02 Pathfinder LE 4x2, speed starts oscillating up and down by 3-5 MPH while using the cruise control at 80 MPH (in this part of Texas, the effective speed limit through the speed traps is whatever the sign says + 9.9 MPH). It doesn't do it at 75, but at 79 the speed starts oscillating after a couple minutes at speed.

If you put your foot lightly on the pedal, you can feel it start moving back and forth. The road is basically straight and flat.

There is also no problem when not using the cruise control - if I hold my foot steady on the pedal, it will cruise steady at this speed. Air filter replaced 2 months & 2000 miles ago.

We are within 3,000 miles of driving out the warranty, so now is the time to ask. Is this a known issue? Maybe vacuum?

It sounds like a vaccum leak to me. I had similar problems when I had a hose split on my S13. Mine wouldn't maintain speed going up hills, and I THINK it was surging on the flats. That was a couple of years ago that I fixed it so my memory may be a little fuzzy. I would take it in ASAP, and get it looked at. It's probabally something minor.
