Hello - Im new - so please bare with me.Ive looked everywhere for a solution and I cant seem to find one.

I recently tried to upgrade the factory headunit to a new JVC one. When I working =behind the stereo, I had major troubles loosening the harness from the back of the stereo. So I asked a friend to help me, and he split the wires from the plastic connector plug. Some wires touched here and there, and some fuses blew. No problem.

So I looked up the wiring diagram - and hooked everything back up perfect, and then replaced the fuses (2 of them)

After doing so - NOW- whenever I turn on the headlamps, the dash lights behind the speedometer, odometer etc. dont light up - and the illumination in t he stereo go off. The music still works, and the headlamps still work, but the LCD display in the stereo, and the dash lights turn off. Also, when the headlights are NOT on, then the illumination in the stereo LCD disaply works.

I have two theories -

1) Somewhere, the fuse is speced wrong, because it seems there is not enough power to go to both the headlamps, and the dash, and stereo display.

2) There were two wires inside the back of radio plug behind the stereo. One of them said illumination, and the other said light switch. My assumption is that when the lights (headlamps) are turned on in the car, then the light switch receives power, and it connects to the illumination wire inside the stereo, and turns on the illumination. Im thinking that maybe the switch inside the stereo is messed up. But it seems highly unlikely b/c inside the Nissan harness for a NEW headunit, there is no connection for the light switch and illumination. So does that mean that the illumination wouldn't work if I installed a new headunit with aftermarket harness?

Can someone please provide me with some feedback as to what they may think the problem is? I really don't want to be paying so much $$$ for something that seems small.

Thanks.

Mo

Have you validated that the illumination control is not all the way to the left?
