HELLO, CAN ANYONE HELP? MY WIFES INFINITI HAS THIS REALLY LOUD HUMMING COMING FROM THE LEFT FRONT AXLE. AT 40+ MPH IT SOUNDS DEADLY LOUD. I JACKED THE CAR UP, PULLED THE FRONT WHEELS OFF, TIGHTENED THE ROTORS DOWN WITH 2 LUGS EACH, AND HAD MY WIFE PUT IT IN GEAR AND RUN IT TO ABOUT 20MPH. I TRACKED THE NOISE TO BE COMING FROM THE CV AXLE RIGHT WHERE IT GOES INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THIS CAR IS WELL TAKEN CARE OF, AND IT DOES NOT HAVE A TORN BOOT. COULD THE CV JOINT STILL HAVE GONE BAD, OR COULD IT BE POSSIBLE THAT SOMETHING IN THE TRANS WENT SOUTH ? THE CAR HAS APPROX 140K ON IT.

:welcome: to NICO!

I can't imagine a bad CV would make that noise... in my experience, they usually fail with a torn boot and failed u-joint that clunks and clicks going around turns. Hard to say for sure though. Unfortunately, my guess would be something bad in the transmission.

If you haven't looked at the factory service manual for your car, it's available at http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/

Good luck!

Did you find out what the problem was on your car, I am currently experiencing the same thing on my 2010 nissan maxima.
