So a few weeks ago my windows and power locks stopped working. I've also been having a radiator leak from the top coolant tank. I didn't know the two could be related.

I swapped out the tank yesterday. To get rid of the 'motory' smell when using the air, i.e. oil and coolant, I degreased the engine after I finished with the radiator.

I went to pick a part a few weeks ago and purchased a BCM unit, hoping that would remedy the power windows and locks problem.

It seems degreasing the engine fixed the problem instead. Can anyone share any insight on this? I'm scared the windows will stop working again, but with some of them rolled down!

All the best,

I don't think your degreasing really fixed your issues... did you have to disconnect the battery during any of this?

I tried that about a week ago. It had no immediate effect. I did not disconnect the battery to change the radiation. I did sort of move the negative battery cable some, while cutting and busting knuckles trying to figure out how to work the radiator out past the air condenser and the fan shrowd though. Could that be the culprit?

Researching other posts, I assumed it was the BPM. No windows worked. Power door locks didn't work. The sunroof and the trunk release continued working though.

Do you think it can be the BCM? What about any gunked up wiring or connections that the degreasing may have loosened up?

Maybe if you sprayed water during the degreasing, it created a temporary better connection (short) at a ground connection? Or moving the negative cable disconnected something just long enough to reset it. Probably worth just letting it ride for a while and seeing if the problem comes back.

Quick update. All of the issues that were present before I degreased the engine... windows and door locks not working, keyless remote not working, have not returned. No issues since degreasing and these items magically repaired.

That JDM life!
