Have this one in my shop, 4X4, 3.3L, auto. Speedo starts off ok, then jumps around wildly and at freeway speeds drops to zero and stays there. The sensor output is good, scopes ok, circuit resistance is 0, no shorts to power or ground. At the sensor signal is correct, at the speedo connector in dash it is erratic. Speed sensor resistance is 296 ohms.

I am stuck on this one if anyone has an idea. Thanks

its common for the printed circuit to fail causing that problem. on some of the older xterra's the circuit paper on the back of the instrument cluster is replacible, oher would need a whole new cluster.

also i beleive there are 2 speedo pins one in and one out to the ecm. can you use a scan tool and redrive and monitor mph at the ecm and see if it is erratic also?

I like your input, however ECM MPH pid mirrors the speedo. I have disconnected the speedo head and driven it with a Vantage on the speed sensor wires at cluster, same erratic signal. The signal is good and clean at the speed sensor connector. This one has me baffled, but it's the weekend so I won't worry about it until Monday

I will check this one for the problem you mentioned tho, just in case.

Also the unified meter freaks out and has a dead leg to the speedo head. Then again the speedo could be bad.
