Hi I have a 2001 Sentra SE (SR20DE) and its a great car, fun to drive. I've recently put on a full flowmaster cat-back exhaust system with a magnaflow muffler. My second gear is lacking tho and I'm not quite sure what I can do to greatly improve it. Force-induction is not an option for me as it's expensive and I feel as if it's too risky for a regular SR20DE. What other things can I do performance-wise to improve my acceleration and help my second gear perform better?

FI is not too risky for a "regular" SR20DE. It's also not terribly expensive if you shop around. Check out the links in my sig.

Anyway, a header, intake upgrade, and cams would give you more power. The engine already makes the majority of its power in the midrange, and those mods would fatten up the middle even further while giving it more breath up top. Your bottom end won't be too much affected, but the significant gains elsewhere may make anywhere under 3000rpm feel slow.
