I've got a 01' Sentra that appears to be going into Limp Mode on startup. The symptoms are that on starting the car is sluggish without power and feels like it is in a higher gear than it should be.

Initially I had suspected a Transmission problem, but now after some research I'm suspecting either a TPS or a dirty throttle body. One other thing that has been a problem for a while is that the gas pedel appears to stick a bit requiring extra force to engage. It is not impeeded by the floormat. Now I'm thinking that these two symptoms together may indicate that the thottle body is dirty and needs to be cleaned.

Does anyone know of a online guide that shows how to remove the Air box and the procedure for cleaning the TB? I'm a total car maintence newbie, but I know which end of a wrench is which, so if the procedure is not complicated I can probably do it as long as the chances of me making things worse isn't high.

Anyone have suggestions?

Sean

well i havent seen under the hood of that year sentra but all you have to do is remove the top half of the box (like you where changing the air filter) remove the vacuum lines on the rubber accordin pipe from the tb to the air box then there should be a little screw clamp around the end of pipe thats at the tb just lossen that up and pull till the rubber pipe pops offthen scray carb cleaner like crazy and move the throttle body back and forth till you are happy that its clean

but i dont think thats your problem because i have worked on much older cars with a good bit of build up around the tb and it doesnt cuase power lost problems like what your saying if your 01 is dirty at all

i would adjust the tps (still probly not the problem) before you take all the intake apart i would move the throttle by hand (at the tb) and see if it feels run or feels like it gets stuck if it feels a LOT smoother then the pedal then your throttle cable is binding or sticking just pop it off and spray wd40 into it and hold the line up and let it run down also get some seafoam engine cleaner and pour it into a full take of gas just incase you have some sh*tty gas which messed things up a little

hope that helpsjoe

{edit} also make sure to unplug the MAF sensor and the IAT sensor and any other sensors which i might not think should be there and remeber where everything goes would suck to do all this work and forget a vacuum line or sensor plug and you car not turn on over something stupid (done it before lol)
