New to forum, here's my situation.
Driving back from store I notice the ses light on and there's been huge power loss, I cannot switch into 2wd or auto or anything. The 4wd indicator lights on dash (green tires) aren't on. I park in driveway and turn it off. Now it will not crank , no clicking no headlight dimming. There is however a high pitched whining noise barely noticeable. I'm guessing its the pnp relay or the switch. I understand the switch is on outside of trans but idk where the relay is, I would like to teat relay first before I do the switch. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to NICO!

This may seem like a silly question, but can you jump start your car? Have you tested the battery? You may want to take a peek at your grounds and clean them up and see if any of them have corroded or need replacing. Do any of the other battery operated systems work- radio, windows, locks, lights, etc?

As a service to all NICO members, we offer the FSMs online. Lots of knowledgeable folks here, too. Here is a link to the FSM for the QX4.

That's what I'm talking about!! Quick reply, quick fix!
Thank you for posting back with your resolution.

Let us know how it works out and if you're up for it, take a few photos along with some notes and we can make the PNP switch replacement a DIY tutorial with photos for more members.

*** DISCLAIMER *** THIS WILL ALLOW YOUR VEHICLE TO CRANK WHILE IN ANY GEAR. SO BE CAREFUL WITH KIDS IN VEHICLE AND ALSO WHEN WORKING ON VEHICLE.

Step #1 Remove #18 fuse from cabin fuse block
#2 pop hood and locate your fuse/fusible link box (right in front of battery), remove cover this means top and lower cover ( remove 12 mm nut on pos cable in fuse box to make easier removal of lower cover)
#3 strip some of the tape off of wires leading into fuse box so you have some length to cut and work with on relay wire
#4 cut the black/yellow wire that goes to #2 terminal on pnp relay cut as far away from relay as reasonably can to make wiring to constant ground easier but not so long that it's a nightmare to reattach to pnp switch wire when repaired.
#5 connect piece of new wire to ground, strip a bit of yellow/black wire coming out of relay and connect other end of new wire to this, solder or e tape it.
#6 replace #18 fuse with 10 amp
#7 start it up, as long as you have proper connection (ground going to pnp relay terminal 2) it will crank and not pop #18 fuse)
#8 check and confirm you can use 4x4 dial selector
#9 clean it all up and pat yourself on back.

Someone please enlighten me on how to add pictures, I have them just need to upload into post. Thanks!
