Hi guys,

I just got a QX4 a couple of months ago and put in a USA Spec iPod adapter. I love the adapter and the sound, but lately the front passenger speaker has started fading out. I can correct this sometimes by cranking up the volume, and then returning it to normal. Other times it seems like both speakers on the door fade out or seem like they're not at max power--the sound becomes very tingy with loud highs but almost no lows. When this happens, sometimes I can fix it by engaging the power-locks. It's really weird. Does anyone have any ideas? Loose cables, broken amp? Thanks!

Sounds like it might be the factory amp.... Aftermarket radio? If not, you might want to think about replacing the head unit and bypassing the factory amp. Is it a Bose system?

Yeah it's the original Bose system. It sounds great when it works, but I've got to say it's not the most sturdy. The CD changer broke years ago and so I spent a couple hundred bucks putting in a USA spec iPod connector. Now with the speakers, I don't know. If it's an amp problem, I might just let it go.

Is it true that the QX4 Bose systems have indivdual amps powering the speakers?

Yes. in the front its a little one next to each speaker, in the rear its one larger amp hidden in the drivers side quarter panel. Heres a picture I took last week when i had my door taken apart (thats a JBL speaker though, not bose)

I bypassed the bose amps but never removed them from the door

if the power locks seem to help you may have a bad ground.

are you sure its not the new Ipod Adapter you just added?

did the problem start when you got the adapter?
