Hello all,

I just bought a 01 QX4 yesterday and it needs new tires soon.

I have done as much researching as I think I can but still have not come up with any real answer.

I know that the stock tires (245/70/17) are about 29-30" in diameter but I would like to upgrade this to something in the 31-32" range. Either 245/75/17 or 265/70/17.

Anybody have any idea if a stock height (for now) 01 QX4 will be able to operate normally with these larger tires. By normal I mean without rubbing.

Thanks for your help. It is quite an upgrade from my 96 4Runner Limited to this QX4. I hope it is as nice to me as my 4Runner was.

Matthew

I just put some 265/75/R16 on my 01 Pathy. This is the largest I could fit on it, the front tire is like an 1/8" under the strut spring perch I had to remove the mud flaps and trim about a 1/2" off the front bumper for turning clearance. I like how they look, by the way they are BFG allterrain T/A's. After trimming for clearance I took it on a local path that has some mudholes and small stuff to climb. did great

I have 265/75/16 on my QX4 which relates to 31.6" and it is the biggest I would go on stock suspension. EDIT: i can see i'm not the only one with this size BFG. I too had to remove the front mud flaps, and trim a bunch, and it is still rubbing in my fender wells at full flex. It also impacted my overall handling as well. Yours are 17" but the overall diameter of the tire is whats most important.

Thank you both for your replies.

Is it possible for you to take a picture of what you had to cut on the front fender?

I was looking at the truck this morning and thought that I have more clearance in the front then the rear of the wheelwell so I am somewhat confused as to what needs to be cut.

The last thing I want to do is buy larger tires only to find that I had to cut a large chunk out of the wheelwell.

Thanks again.

Damn, you are quick. I have been part of the DSM community for a while and they are good for helping each other. Looks like I may have found another group of good people willing to help each other out.

I see what needs to be cut but I am not sure if I will have to do the same on my QX4.

Front:

Rear:

I have the stock tires now and the ones I am looking at are bout 2 inchs more so therory would say that it is an inch bigger on each side and should fit.

Is it possible that the wheel well space s bigger on my QX4 compared to your Pathy?

Mine is a QX4, not a Pathfinder, So I have the same exact setup as you. My tires are 265/75/16 BFG all terrains on some aftermarket rims (16x8 eagle alloys) with the same backspacing as the OEM wheel (4.5") although my OEM wheels are only 16" compared to your OEM 17", but the wheel wells are exactly the same. Yeah you got the sections down. That first pic is where you have to cut, the second pic is where you remove the mudflaps. It was rubbing so bad when I put the tires on, that I had to cut the plastic AT THE TIRE PLACE. It only took a few minutes.

Anybody try 265/65r17 on a qx4? I have 245/65r17 silent armors on now. They're supposed to be 29.5" tall, but in reality they're like 28.5". Wondering if 265/65r17 duratracs would fit, they're supposed to be 30.6" tall.

These won't fit without a small suspension lift. I would recommend our 2" all around or even 2.5-2 lift for more space. With our 2.5-2 lift kit you can fit up to 32" tires with minor plastic trimming in front and removal of the rear mud flaps. Click my signature.

Looks really good! Thanks for the info. I still got some thread left on my Silent Armors, but when I start looking for new tires I'll get the 2" lift kit. 32" tires sound cool :yesnod

What effect does the 1" lift kit have on the car? Camber? Alignment? Sorry never had a lift before. I just looking for enough space to clear 265/65R17 tires.

I have a 2" lift on my QX4 and just ordered some grabbers AT2s 265/75/16 on 16" offroad wheels. Will find out next week if they fit

Removed running boards and installed 32" Grabbers. Rubs a bit, need to trim some stuff, but looks sick. Way better in real life than in pictures.

I am about to throw some 265/70/17 Tires on my stock wheels. Anyone have any suggestions for filling the holes made when trimming?

RR425 It looks good even in the picture. I am sure there's some rubbing when turning, but how is it over bumps? Do the tires hit anything?

No rubbing when turning and doesnt hit anything on bumps (I installed a 2" lift though). Plus my wheels are 16" with -6mm offset. I dont think stock wheels with 20mm offset can fit these tires (strut iss too close). -6mm offset moves the tire 1" outward, clearing the strut and looks way better with wider stance.

 I went for it anyway.

I do get some rub in reverse at full lock but with a 2" lift it's minimal. I'm gonna cut a bit more out of the plastic shielding and it should be good.

As for the strut tower I just barely have enough clearance. The picture makes it look better than it actually is. It's like 1/2". I have some spacers (really adapters) I might try out because it's scary close.
