I have been having an issue with my 2001 Infiniti QX4 where at a stop light the truck idles down low enough to cut off the engine. I took it to the dealer today who quoted me $600 to replace it. This seems excessive after the already $125 they want to tell me what's wrong. (Northern VA/DC inflated prices)

If this is it can I do this work myself? I found this part @ http://www.1aauto.com/1A/air-f...exTag

$198.95

Thanks, I didn't find this info in here for the QX4 just the Q45.

i never worked on an 01 but on my 99 with a different engine, it takes about 2 minutes to take the maf sensor off..... 2 minutes to put back..... i would never pay somebody to do it..... the only thing is you have to be careful not to drop it because maf sensors are delicate and easy to break.

I think most people do not recommend you replace the sensor from the meter, but replace the entire Mass Air Flow Sensor.

it's right next to your air cleaner. If you buy the part, you will know exactly what it looks like. There isn't anything in the engine bay that it can be mistaken for.

Basically, it's like a black piece of PVC pipe with mesh on each end and a little sensor in the middle.

Like fueler said, it takes all of 30 minutes to do replace and that would probably include the time it takes to open a beer and drink half of it.

I swapped mine with a 2001 Maxima sensor (the entire MAF, not just the sensor like you found). Some other people that have done this, as well. It is a cheap replacement, but I don't think I can currently recommend it. Mine now throws codes. It runs perfectly normal and gets good mpg (16-17 on the freeway), though. You can do a search and see what you come up with.

The 01 Pathy/QX4 MAF I got quotes in the neighborhood of $400 for the part.

Chris thanks for the note and thank you all for the relpies if I had not already said so.

I will be out of town for work until Thursday, I hope when I get back in town to find this part at the dealer just because of its importance. I don't want to risk an aftermarket part or a used one again. The dealer wants $347 for it, not sure of that is the whole part but at that price its likely.

Another question is this simply and screw/unscrew part to remove?

EDIt: I just found this on eBay, its a NON-OEM, I'm not interested but is this what I shoudl expect it to look like? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...13159

It's herrendous what the dealer service charges, had mine replaced, in hindsight, could have done it myself for a fraction of the cost.

See what a Maxima MAF will run you. Might also find the pathy/QX4 MAF at a more reasonable price too.

They have one listed for $109.00 @ http://www.courtesyparts.com/m...=1956&

and something similar for $409.05 @ http://www.courtesyparts.com/2...=1956&

Can anyone explain what I am looking at other than recommended year differences?

I just did a google search and here is one of the threads I found online, after first hearing about this type of MAF swap through some Maxima channels.

http://npora.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=12280

I got that exact part number (22680-2Y001) and went to my local Nissan dealer. It was something like $120ish.

This would be the top link you listed.

Like I said, my 2001 QX4 runs much better and I have had this on for a while. However, it has now started throwing codes. I don't know if I need to get my ECU reprogrammed or if something is running slightly different and I don't know what it is. I can't really tell that anything is actually wrong.

For the cost of the fix and less than 1/2 hour of my own labor, I am fine with that. I just wanted to make it clear that this may not be the absolute best solution.

Thanks for the info and advice, I may look into trying it myself. I do recall the dealer saying that the MAF sensor is the first step for the kind of "idle to cuttoff" issue I am having. He did say there may be other issues that need to be addressed perhaps this is what you are experiencing?

Anyone else able to chime in on the Maxima MAF? To me it seems if it has identical specs why would not not work?

Do a search in this section (pathfinder/qx4) for "MAF" and you will find several that go back to this same thing.

I remember the first one I saw said something about pinging or knocking. That's what my engine was doing before I replaced the MAF.

dont waste your money. If u have the 3.5 liter u can go out and get a 2000 nissan maxima maf and it works for your pathy...i did it and its been good for me ever since then. only 110 bucks and yes u can do it your self...quite easy. AT least it was for me.

So a 2000 maxima MAF will work for all 3.5 engine models including the QX4? Will a 2001 maxima MAF not work?
