Hello,

I am glad i have found this site as I am looking for some answers. I just recently bought a used 2001 Pathfinder 4WD LE for my son and have recently got some issues with it.

It won't start, This just happened and here is what i have done so far. I have no noise when i turn the key to the start position, fyi.
I replaced the battery with a new one, did not start
Had a buddy come over and check the starter. After doing some troubleshooting we bypassed some things and hooked up a line to the + on the battery and onto the starter and it started. It still won't start the normal way but the starter is good.
The factory security light goes away when we move to the on position so may not be the alarm. So anyone have any other ideas, could it be the alternator, ignition switch. Not sure on how to proceed.

Thanks.

One more issue i forgot to mention is that the stop tail light fuse blows when i have the brake pedal pressed when starting. When i don't have the pedal pressed it does not blow. I am not sure if this has anything to do with the car not starting.

Are both ends of the stock battery cables clean and free of corrosion and other damage?

Welcome to NICO.

Yes, they are clean and look to be in good condition.

Thanks for the reply

edit- I want to say thank you for putting the pathfinder general faq's together, that is helpful to a new owner like myself.

You're welcome :)

Check the brake light sockets in the side taillights first, there may be frayed wiring or other damage causing a short.

What's the manufacturing date of your Pathfinder? This can be found on the driver door jamb sticker.

Try to follow the "B" terminal circuit diagnostic procedure as best you can, it's described on page SC-16 of the factory service manual.

I can get you the manufact date a little later as I am at work and the car is at home. Do you happen to have any thoughts on why i can't get it to start? I posted some things that i did in my first post up top. I will take a look at the service manual you suggested for the brake issue.

The diagnostic procedure is actually for the no-start issue. It just verifies that the battery to starter circuit is working properly.

I have a 99 and the factory alarm is not hooked up to the ignition in any way. It is simply lights + horn + keyless entry.

I know because I have started and driven the car with the alarm blaring

On my 92 Pathfinder the ignition switch was at fault and that led to it not starting.

May want to check that.

GOod luck !

I'm not so sure. 2000+ have NVIS (Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System), which requires chipped keys. A malfunction can definitely prevent the engine from starting.

I finally had a chance to work on the car last night and I found the issue. I am so pissed at myself cause its one of those fixes where i knew i checked. After a couple of hours of I wanted to go through the fuse box one more time and there it was. Somehow the 7.5a AT fuse was not in all the way and looked liked it was blown. I put in a spare that i had and boom it started. I couldn't believe it, i was happy but pissed that i missed it. Thanks for you help on this!

I will be working on the stop tail light fuse issue where it blows when i press the brake when starting and doesn't when i don't.

Thanks again for your replies!
