What is the importance of the line that runs up the middle of the windshield? Does it have anything to do with the temp reading? do lose anything when I replace the windshield? thanks for any info.

Yup. . it's part of Nissan's diversity antenna system. Many Nissan cars have two antennas, but you don't notice because typically it's installed in the back and looks like part of the defogger. On my QX4, I also have a rear antenna but it's for the communicator system (that I don't have). At first I thought I had a dead defog wire. . haha

my 97 240sx had this as well, but it came in the form of a weird-shaped line on the back window.

also, you don't need it. Personally, I switched to a 98 Altima radio because my stock one died (240sx) and it didn't have this option, so I bought an adapter and I had absolutely no problems picking up the same stations.

^ I second that!

When I hooked up my aftermarket deck I left the diversity antenna disconnected because I never listen to the radio. I only used my radio once to see why traffic wasn't moving and to my suprise I still get all the stations fine.
