1.I am having alot of confusion about rear ends. I know there is Locked,Open, and Limited slip. I know Pathfinders were avalable with Limited slip rear ends. Mine is a LE and LE has all mode standard. Dose this mean ones with all mode have a LSD standard to. If it dosent how can I find out what type of rear end it has.

2.Another problem is I cant quite grasp how a limited slip works. Is it when one wheel spins it sends power to the opposite wheel. So for example if your doing a power brake would both spin or just a one wheel wonder .

3.Another question, I was at work and a SE was on the rack. I turned the rear end and the opposite wheel turned the other way, was that a open rear end or LS because from my understanding a LS would spin the same direction and with a locking diff it would just be solid.

I tried to make it simple but I might have confused everyone even more.

1. VLSD was an option with all-mode

2. The viscous limited slip works by sending power to both wheels equally when slip is detected. It works pretty much invisibly, and you don't feel the one wheel slipping.

3. That's how you tell -- that's an open diff. The wheels will spin in the same direction if it's got LSD. Locking diff wasn't an option, but ARB air lockers are an awesome route to go

Well, I jacked her up the other day and its not Limited slip. It just has a open rear end. If I was to wanna add a lockin rear diff, what is the first step I would take. I would like to have like you said air lockers. Im not sure where to start.

air lockers are your only option, unfortunately.

unless you want to do an axle swap...

Yeah you could add vlsd, but this is by far a better choice.

depends on how much off roading you do.you can call them to see if this fits your pathfinder but from what I read it is little rough on the street.https://www.4x4parts.com/catal...=2684

i think you can tell wether your truck has lsd or not if it has a traction control switch...my 01 LE is supposed to be the fully loaded model...and i noticed i don't have a 3rd swtichnear the seat warmers.

i remmember i got stuck in a 15" deep snowfield back in marchand i left it on 4wd Hi and whenever it detects a slippage the wheel would stop and send all the power to the opposite wheel...
