I’m going to be doing the timing chain on my 01 pathfinder 3.5l. I’m just wondering what brand of chain to get if it even matters. I’m not doing cams or any performance upgrades. I do have an exhaust and cold air intake on it but that’s all. Just looking for something reasonably priced and reliable. Thanks

mac, as probably many will suggest , Nissan OEM DEALER ( you NEVER know what you get from thebay and other "online sources") , by the way how many miles ? And more & more on DOHC V (FOUR cam gears! ) I'm less & less a fan of chain designs over belts , like in VG30DE's etc. Those super-long chains at HI-revs , all the G's and PLASTIC edge tensioners and guides . (chainsaw effect :rotfl )

Just curious as to why you are replacing the timing chain? are you experiencing a problem with it? timing chains are designed to last the life of the vehicle and there are no prescribed timing chain replacement intervals for them

I haven’t opened the front cover yet but I am led to believe that the guides are wore out and that’s where I’m getting the noise from. Researched lots on the vg35 and it seems like a common issue.

mac , some got a lot of "Chainsaw effect" goin on , and again w/4cams some of the better designs are 1 crank chain powering 2 cam chains (ea. bank going off a "balancer shaft" occasionally) And all three of those are MUCH smaller diameter
and don't get G's beating the SH%&#@TT out of them , and harmonic vibes as much as ooooooooone biiiiiiiiig chain :spitout:Belts on the other hand , outside and pliable don't break off INSIDE motor. HOW many miles here though??

mac , wow right back eh ! enough miles for the chainsaw to grind ,yes. Here's what I do to DETECT CRAP/PIECES/SEDIMENT in oil pan (I do my own changes , but the Lubeboy may accomodate you) - take a pipe cleaner (stiffer better) and make "hooklike" end and "swift-around" into the pan thru oil drainhole and PULL any crap out onto a white cloth . I put screw driver handle and slow down the drain-torrent so not lost in drain pan. Then IMMEDIATELY go do the "fishing expedition" .Most of my car's in good shape -many many years ago I "found" HARDWARE inside a pan (smallblock Chevy :rotflmao ) small nut and phenolic or bakelite- old school SH&%$aTT. SO you may "go fishing" in your oil pan for the little plastic chainsawed off pieces? :lolling:
