Hello everyone,. I've been reading and realized that mutual owners may have experienced the same things and I appreciate any and all input. I recently purchased a 01 pathfinder. My buddy I bought it from was up front about everything. Was purchased at auction and was a seized vehicle and had been sitting up for at least a year. He changed the alternator, added some seafoam and it was running well. Then he started have idle control issues. After investigating, he found the spring in the idle control valve was broken. Before purchasing, I brought it to a mechanic. After a brief looking over and test drive, his experience led him to believe that there were no major issues.
I ordered the parts, changed it and now it won't crank. It turns over, but will not fire up. Checked fuel system, relays, and spark plugs. Changed the fuel filter that plugged up probably from all the crud that loosened up after driving it a while after adding seafoam.
I put a code diagnostic machine on it and cleared all codes. Still didn't crank. So went looking at what those codes were. There were all having to do with position sensors. Pulled cam position sensors. They were caked up with gunk about an inch thick. Then I measured resistance on the sensor and it was in correct range. I moved on to crankshaft position sensors, they too were similarly covered with gunk. I ordered new ones and haven't gotten back to the truck yet. I cleaned the sensors up and will reinstall tomorrow, but could that be the issue. What haven't I tried? Thanks in advance.

That could certainly be the issue, but if it doesn't work, you should get back to the basics and determine if you're lacking fuel or spark... report back, and we can go from there.

Well I checked status of codes again. Ignition timing fault. I found wires connected to coil are partially cut. Should I try to repair or get whole new warning connector? Thanks

Sounds like this truck is going to be one of those gifts that keep on giving........trouble, that is.
Seized, not run for a year, then auctioned. Makes you wonder how poorly it was looked after before it was seized.
You mentioned a lot of gunk too. How was the oil when you picked it up? Did it look like it had ever been changed?
Anyway, keep us posted.
Cheers.

Well maybe so, I only paid $1100, had last oil change sticker and it has miles left before next one is due. I'm changing all fluids and filters. I'm not much of a mechanic, but I'm making this a project. As long as no major issues arise, I'll keep trying myself. Interior and body are in great shape considering how old it is. Thanks

Truck running, but idling to fast and steady bouncing from 2-3 k rpm just sitting there running in gear or in park. 2 codes. P1320 , and P0505.

P0505 is idle air control I believe... that'll definitely cause a problem. Could also be a vacuum leak.
