Well, I'm new to the forums here, so Hi! I really need some help.

This problem has been occuring for a long time now, in fact, over a year. At first, it was so seldom that my family (I just inherited the car from my mom) never paid any attention to getting it fixed, now it occurs most every time I drive the car.

It is an '01 Maxima GXE. The car normally idles around 900 RPMs. Under this "condition", it will idle around 1500. Now it has started going higher, to around 2000, and, today, 3000 (it's starting to get dangerous). I took it to AutoZone and had them hook up to the computer, which gave the code "P0505 - Idle Control System Malfunction".... yeah, like that helps a lot.

My father took off the throttle (I know there's a proper name for it, but it's left me... - the thing that the cables from the accelerator hook to) and cleaned it inside and out, but this has had no effect.

The problem also seems to only occur once the engine has had a minute or so to heat up.

Any ideas? Anyone that's had the same problem?

Thanks,Smiley

hello, I am guessing he tried to check the throttle cable isn't making the throttle body stuck open

it could be your iacv: idle air control valve

time to hit the junk yard and see if that is the problem

Yes, the problem is not in the throttle body - it seams to work fine. He tried to remove the IACV from it, but one screw became damaged and he was unable to get it off. I will check with some junkyards Tue. morning and see what I can find. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm also open to any other ideas while we're here. I have a long weekend to think about not being able to drive my baby... :D

Thanks,Smiley
