I have an rather perplexing problem. I have been tripping a P0171 trouble code on my '01 Maxima. I replaced 2 out of 3 O2 sensors(front-bank1? & rear) as well as adding a couple cans of fuel injector cleaner. I cleaned the MAF sensor and performance improved, but soon sluggishness returned. So I bought a new MAF sensor and swapped that in. Performance improved quite noticably, BUT after being warmed up, it would just suddenly die at idle. It would start right back up and feel great as long as I stayed on the gas, and it is not rough at idle, it just drops RPM and stops. When I put the old MAF sensor back in, it idles again, but has sluggish performance.I am going to replace the other O2 sensor (another $100), but I wonder if anyone has any other ideas? Air temp sensor? Bad fuel injector (but smooth engine otherwise)? Muffler bearings???Thoughts?Oznan

Welcome to NICO.

You need to check the wires going in to the plug that plugs into the MAF. I went through 4 MAF's Before I found that issue with mine. The wires had become loose. My mechanic fixed the plug and never had an issue after that.

DTC & self-learn must be erased & needs to perform idle air volume learn if applicable, w/c can only be done at your Nissan dealer. Possible it might need an ecm reprogram but depends on ecm part number & maf part number or TSB
