Thanks for all the help regarding my erratic idle. I took the car to A Nissan Dealer today and paid $104 to hear something I already knew. I thought their scanner might find the actual problem. They said they have to replace the iac and mafs before they can diagnose the problem. Service manager said the aic's had a tendency to short out due to leaking coolant in the throttle body, which shorts out the computer. Sounds like a crock of **** to me. I had the throttle body off and there is no coolant leak, I know what everything looks like. It idles too high cold, then cycles rapidly when it warms up. If it is cycling between 1200-1600 rpm, doesn't that indicate that the iac is working?? My question is: I'm willing to get a pricey new iac and mafs. This will set me back $400 for another shot in the dark. Dealer wanted twice that for their parts. Any recommendations where to send for these parts online??? Thanks again!!! Dan

Why can't they test the parts?

I love how these guys are trained to work on our cars but can't troubleshoot work a #$%^

And why can't I test the parts. My old iac motor has a resistance test I found in the factory manual- the ohms were out of spec, so I got a junkyard one, which tested ok as far as resistance . Now the dealer tells me it's bad, so I go to return the junkyard one under their 30-day guarantee. The guy refused to give my money back. Don't know how to test the mafs. I just sent away for an iac and mafs. Will keep you posted and I just want to get my best car back on the road.

What a crock-- 'we can't diagnose your car until we put in some absurdly overpriced dealer parts, and then we'll sell you a new ecu too.'

i'd put my money on the iac if your maf went out the car wont rev at all, you can also disassemble your intake, wet a rag with carb cleaner and clean inside the throttle body, it might help if you've never done it

IACV-AAC valve is on its way. Thanks, I had the whole intake system off, throttle body off for cleaning. MAFS will be replaced also. Parts were the best price I could find from a place called rockauto.com. I need to study the factory manual more thoroughly. My Dealer experience sucked, maybe I expect to be ripped off on some subconscious level. I get different opinions- I heard if the MAFS is bad it won't rev over 3500rpm, and the computer goes into fail-safe mode. Gotta go to work painting a millionaire's trophy shore house until my parts come in........

Yeah, a little searching and reading the 240 guys threads showed that if the MAF is completely dead then it will go into safe mode with limited RPMS and very limited fuel.

I installed the new iav valve and mafs sensor. Really happy with rockauto.com so far. Good prices and service. There is a way to 'learn' the idle by disconnecting the TPS brown connector for a second. I did this. Now the car seems to have been repaired! The idle is now down to specs, even though the car did the same erratic revving after I installed the new parts.Idle did go down too far in drive on my first test drive. Seems Ok now. Page EC-123 tells how to reset the TPS idle memory by turning the ignition on for 5 secs and off for 10 secs, 20 times. Should I do this too?

Nervous about this car and ready to sell it and get an antique car that I can fix without a 200 IQ and an engineering degree.....

I meant iacv-aac of course. Off to return the MAFS core and get the $50.
