Hi All,
Trying to replace the Crank Position Sensor in my 2001 Frontier4x4. (3.3L)
I keep reading threads on this and other forums saying where it is, that it's one bolt and anywhere from easily done in 5 minutes to difficult but definitely doable.
Is there anyone out there on this forum who has actually done one? If so, did you get to it from the the bottom or through the engine bay? I think I've located it looking down from the engine bay but can't figure out a way to reach it from any angle.
Any words of wisdom/insight are GREATLY appreciated.

Had the clutch replaced a couple of yrs ago, height of depression, at the cheapest place I could find. Took them about 4 days to do it and as I drove away I heard a loud bzzzzzzz bam! Shortly after that the ck engine light started coming on. Pretty sure the sensor tip made contact with the flywheel and sheared off. Bought a code checker around inspection time and had CPS, O2 & Knock Sensor codes pulling up. Replaced O2 and cleared that, but need at least one other code cleared to pass inspection. Knock sensor would seem the more difficult of the 2 so.... Trying to replace the CPS.

Those are common codes for these trucks, in that order too. I have read that replacing the dizzy is a solution people have tried before. Search code P1336.

I know that the CAM sensor is in the distributor in this truck but it's the crankshaft sensor code that's pulling up. Am I missing something??

It's odd but all my searches for P1336 ended up pointing at the distributor for some reason. I know the crank sensor isn't in there but for some reason it made a difference in the threads I was following. My father's 03 Xterra is having a P1336 issue right now, ironically.

Ended up finding a good garage and took it in. Turns out the timing chain was stretched so bad it jumped a tooth on the sprocket. I wouldn't have thought it would run in that condition or that it would have been very poorly if it had. I had been experiencing some pre-ingnition knock in the hotter months but thought that was cheap gas. Maybe that was the timing slightly off?
I'll get it back tomorrow and see how it runs.

Had to replace the head gakets and have the heads machined cuz the kid overheated the truck 99 Frontier 3.3 4 wheel drive I have since replaced the distributor and the throttle position sensor and still getting erratic idle and weird codes one said teeth are missing from the flywheel on said CPS was open or shorted or malfunctioned and then only came up once I changed the timing and it seemed to go back now it's popping through the exhaust and idling very high and no power at accelerating under a load

3.3s have a belt, not a chain. It's a maintenance item.
