Hello Forum,

I tried to fill up my tank yetserday, when the low fuel light went on, but I couldn't get more than $0.50 a squirt without the pump shutting off and gas spirting out. What gives? I get back in and start the car, and sure enough, the "service engine soon" light pops up. For what it's worth I had just got back into town from a 2 week trip, so the car wasn't driven in some time. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your help.

And sorry for the typo in the title, I can't edit it.

Did someone try to suck your gasoline out and broke something off in filler neck?

Trip to dealer to have the system checked.

JOKE:Maybe the smart car is refusing to accept the low quality fuel you have available?

That's a pretty clever suggestion. $4-$5 gasoline with a car thats been sitting for 2 weeks makes sense.

I'd try slowly filling it- and I mean slowly-with a gas can to see if it takes any gas at all.

As Andy said, try a second filler of some sort before you freak out. The pump could have been d!ck up.

Pump won't affect fueling.

Of course it will. Have you never used a pump with a fluky cutoff switch???

All I am suggesting (as did Andy) is that before he blames the car, insure that the car is the problem. I have had plenty of problems with pumps over the years. Absent that, check the vent.

The pump to which I am referring is of course the car's fuel pump.

A faulty pump at the dispenser would be immediately obvious I presume.

How you got that mako was referring to the fuel pump is really weird. Were you drunk?
