keep in mind my car is automatic. when i start driving from a standstill and my car is switching to its second gear (slightly under 40mph) it starts to be unresponsive at the gas pedal and beguns to slow down(no studder). this really suck when it comes to getting of the freeway cause i have to put pedal all the way down causing the rpms to get to about 4 rpms in order to get it to the next higher gear. i literally have to force the car to change gear and i dont like reving that loud. i always do my oil changes on time. havent done a tune up since i bought the car and thats been about 2years. just need some suggestions on what it can be so i can try to correct it. thanks

Start with checking the level and condition of the transmission fluid. A transmission flush is highly recommended. However, if your car has >85,000 miles on it and has no record of transmission service, most shops will refuse it due to liability issue. Your other option will be to do a pan drop, clean the pan and magnets, check/replace the filter then install new gasket followed by multiple drain and refill.

You may have problem with sensors/switches so it would be better to get a free scan from Autozone and the likes and get a printout of the trouble code, if any.

To avoid being overcharged at the shop, you must have an idea as to what is the problem with your car. Again, get a free scan from Autozone to see if you have trouble code or not. Some shops charge @ $60 just for this diagnostic when you can get it for free from AZ. You can check the condition and level of the transmission fluid your self (engine warm and running). A good/new ATF fluid is pinkish red in color. If it is dark or smell burnt, it must be replaced. Fluid specified is Nissan Matic-D but Dexron III (obsoleted by GM) or the newer and better Dexron VI should do the job.
