I have two Polk tens and I would like to know if having the speakers facing directly from one another in the forward trunk ( strut tower/ tirewell ) would cause the sounds wave to be *distorted in any way.

Also, can an amp be ran through the factory GLE's head unit?

Thanks for your time and knowledge.

facing toward each other is not bad. i have my subs set up in that fashion. an amplifier can be run off of the factory gle head unit with a proper high-low converter. let me know if you need to know which one. i will need to know if it is bose or not.

MTX's new line of amps can take a high-level input...no need for a converter....and the amps rock!

One thing that might also be important for this configuration is that; you will have decreased output due to the cancellation caused from the subs facing each other.

But you will not have any induced distortion because of it.

Generally it's better to have them oriented the same direction or up to 90 degrees off axis with each other.

Circuit City has a high-low converter thats probably sufficient for the job. I will have it wired in along with new Polk mids installed in front doors. Head unit is not Bose. I was worried about cancellation. I listen to rock, and such so I am not trying to bump out the guy on 20s. The subs will be pushed by a cheap 400wX4 amp. So with all this considered will i have good sound quality and responsive subs that aren't overpowering the mids nor underpowered and a waste of all my time? Thanks guys, at first I thought noone would reply.

The benefit of facing the subs together is space conservation. The drawback is some cancelation. The further apart you can get them... the better. Generally speaking, you will not have much cancelation with bass drivers under 90hz. In a perfect sound reproduction environment, you could notice a drop. In a car's trunk (not a perfect sound reproduction environment) it is not that pronounced. If you can point both of them back at the trunk, you will have more loudness because of proper phase and cabin gain (about a 3dB increase). There are some equations in physics that I could explain, but I'll spare everyone the headache. You will not waste your time if you go ahead with your setup.
