0 to 60 - 7 seconds ?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I keep reading via the net that 0 to 60 is around 7 seconds , have also read that 0 to 60 is under 6 .

Where did they get 7 seconds , I wonder ?
From their own test , I guess

Yesterday I drove a qx50 for the first time , loved it , except for the engine noise at high revs , wow .
Drove the BMW X3 too , loved that too

If that is a huge point (0-60 times) look at the RWD times.

My 2008 AWD hit 6.16 secs 0-60 on Uprev Cipher data log. Base line etune (stock) 0-60 was 6.4-6.7 secs. There are lots of variable to get a fast 0-60. (Elevation, season, tire size, fuel capacity, type of gas , drivers weight etc...) BTW, my 2008 EX35 is not loaded with packages option. I assume it is a lot lighter than the loaded one.

The fastest 0-60 was on DS mode with brake torque at 1.3-1.5k RPM.

Torque braking shaves of .2-.3 secs 0-60 run.

The QX50 is probably quicker due to the close gearing ration and a few Hp/torque increase.

BTW, launching a RWD takes practice and for an ordinary joe, he would not be able to hit less than 6 secs on RWD EX35/37/Qx50. The AWD is quicker off the line , specially with brake torque. Try brake torquing a RWD with no practice and it will spin from the dig and lose .2-.3 secs....

I know this is a very old article and I know a LOT has changed since this (see Mercedes GLA45AMG, my total chubby inducing choice) but it is still interesting and shows at the time, Infiniti was right up there near the top.

I think that article gets at some of the vagaries of 0-60 times. Consider that the EX 35 AWD does not make the list due to a 6.5 second time (although other articles have it running at 6.0 or 6.1) while the decidedly heavier (and probably less slippery) FX 35 AWD with essentially the same powertrain does with a 6.1 time. This apparent inconsistency was ignored but should have suggested that the EX run was not optimal. In a different article Motor Trend once referred to the FX as the best reason to buy an EX.

They screwed up with the design of the FX , I love everything about the FX except for the body shape , beautiful interior .

I drove the BMW x3 and the 335i sedan twice this week.
The X3 was nice but it seemed too hefty and busy inside . just did not do it for me .
The 335I was more fun , a lot more fun , fast , too .

Straight over to Infiniti and drove the QX50 which is a little like the RX350 in the cushy ride , beautiful elegant interior and simple dashboard layout , more to my taste .
Here is one I am considering https://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/ctd/5225883601.html
Hopped in a Q50 and , like the 335i , was just as fast and handled like the 335i .

I see NO reason to buy neither BMW over the Infiniti , unless you really need the extra cargo room of the X3 and I realize most may or think they will need it , but I do not need the extra cargo space , which makes me think the Q50 will suit my needs as I loved the way the car handled .

Only a pro driver will know the difference between the 355i and the Q50 ( if there is any ) and I am not a pro so I do not care.

Infiniti in Sun City in Phoenix gets a lot of very low mileage trade ins that they sell for such an excellent price , can not justify buying a new one

Oh yeah , I also drove the Lexus is 350 , boring .

There are some amazing deals on 2015 RX350 , like $3,900 at signing and $400 a month on a 3 year lease for a $50K car .

They want to get rid of them buy November
