anybody know why the posted times for the g35 SEDAN is faster than the 350z coupe? i thought they had the same engine and weigh about the same, but the stats i read show

0-60 g35 journey sedan 5.4 seconds, curb weight 3635 lbs w/ 5 speed auto

0-60 350z coupe 6.2 seconds, curb weight 3640 w/ 6 speed manual

is the difference just the trannys or is this maybe a typo or something? i just think of the 350 coupe being faster than the sedan but guess maybe it has a lot to do with the driver and the 6 speed gear box?

thanks...

I'd like to know as well...

but if those are indeed facts... I'd have to put my money on the transmission difference since the sedan is an auto

those particular specs came from consumer reports testing.

but.... car and driver gave these results for the 07 g35 6mt

0 - 60 in a smokin' fast 5.2 seconds.

that is just plain ol' outrageous for a sedan. and even faster than the run reported for the auto.

so, if those are right, there goes the manual vs. automatic theory.

i'm thinking the z driver just didn't get the most out of the vehicle and it could do better. or that number may be the typo.

As I own a Skyline I generally try to read as much Skyline specific stuff I can (even though they are essentially the same). I remember reading on an official Nissan Japan website (don't ask me what it was cause I can no longer find it) the 0-100 KM (0-60 mi) of the 2003-2006 Skyline coupe was 5.5 secs, in both manual and tippy forms. They did not list the sedans numbers.

If you are comparing the '07 G35 Sedan vs. '07 G35 Coupe/'07 Z, then the sedan should win.

VQ35HR > VQ35DE

IMO, the new G35 sedan may be underrated. I believe someone dyno'd a stocker and it had 289whp. If you consider drivetrain losses of 10-15%, that would put the car around 318-332hp

I've found if you shift at 5500-6000 rpm with tiptronic is a bit faster. If you go over than it takes longer to shift. It is probably because of the computer. It is ease to forget to shift at the right time. (redline)

sorry, guess i'm confused. i thought the 07 g35 sedan and coupe shared the same engine as the 07 350z? don't they all use the newer vq35hr?

they all show 306 horsepower 3.5 liter v6 engines. am i missing something?

The '07 G35 coupe still has the VQ35DE (still listed at 293hp for the 6MT and 275hp for the auto). The '07 G35 Sedan has the VQ35HR. Since the coupe came out after the sedan, it will be jumping to the VQ37VHR motor for 2008 (released in Aug of this year).

You are correct, the Z does have the HR motor. For some reason I thought it followed the G-coupe but it was actually released when the G sedan was.

so, same engine, still no differences to account for a full second difference?

guess i'm going to suspect a typo in the z specs or a test driver who couldn't get the most out of it.

otherwise, it might be rear-end ratio or different transmission gear ratios or something like that?

I'm always skeptical about 0-60 times - we all know it's more than power and weight - it's also how well the car can launch. That can be affected by tire choice (was the Infiniti on quality summers, the Z on ordinary all-seasons?). The sedan may have been tested on a grippy track, the Z on a greasy one. Plus temperature, wind, etc, and of course driver ability. Transmission, gearing, etc. play a further role. Aerodynamic differences would have a neglibible impact at these speeds. A magazine like Road & Track should know how to minimize these effects (aside from tires). Consumer Reports, on the other hand, may not be as expert or employ well-qualified drivers.
