i was planning on removing my egr tube but i wanted to know if this will have any negative effect on my car, or if the egr has any property that will screw with my ecu

just make sure you have something to plug the holes with.

so i should plug the whole in the header obviously but do i need to plug the actual egr up or just let it breathe?

not to hijack, but i want to do this too.... im currently throwing a EGR flow excessive code. I'd rather just do away with the whole system, make less clutter in the engine bay.

Theres a write up titled something similar to what you wrote, but anyway... The egr tubes have to be unscrewed at both ends, the plugged with nickles(trust me, it works) then you screw the tubes back on and get a 100w (i think) resistor from radioshack, plug it in, and VIOLA! No more egr, and no more codes. And you didn't even have to try and remove it. : )

Really? Well damn. Time to go put that resistor to good use somewhere else. I thought not having the resistor threw a code. OHHHH, that MIGHT be on OBD2 cars! Duh, duh. I'm stupid : )

Oh, I emailed you a few days ago. Did you get it?

I think you mean 100ohm... A 100W[att] resistor is one capable of high power. The folks at radioshack would be lost...

i disabled it when i installed hotshot header on my 91. welded the header bung closed. i had to cut the old egr tube with mr sawzall. then crushed the end and sealed w/ lots of jb weld. ghetto, but no codes.

i did the same thing on my 89, but instead of crushing the egr or capping it i ran a heater hose and T into PCV hose at the intake pipe, after the MAF so that way its metered cool air going into the Cyl when it opens. didnt see again nor a Problem. ill probably do the same for my 90.

my car was having a bad idle and i thought it was the egr valve so i took the pipe off the header and stuck a nickle in the hole to plug it up, and put it back on, problem solved

Yup, thats a stuck open egr valve. They're old original cars.

Ok , so just make this clear, I have a 91 and im getting some hotshot headers in about a week, If i want to get rid of my egr, just disconnect that small pipe from the exhuast manifold and from the Intake and lift all that crap out?

What do i have to do to keep from getting codes? I know you guys have said up there but i was a tad confused.

Actually taking out the egr set up is hellish. Blocking it off and getting a 100ohm resistor from radioshack is much easier and reaches the same goal.

Where does the 100ohm resistor go?

And another question ( Im paranoid about engine life) Does the resistor lean out the air to fuel mixiture ratio like i have seen on those stupid ebay adds that say they add like 20 hp. Becuase i want it lean when tuning an n/a engine but no THAT lean.

hmmm im not sure i understood the last question about the resistor leaning out the mixture.

from what i understood the egr pipes nasty emissions back to the intake so the CO2 will lower the combustion temp and prevent NOx from forming.

if its removed blocked or rerouted could an octane booster serve the same purpose of lowering temperature to pass emissions? and does a higher combustion temp wothout it have an negative effects on engine life?
