I had an engine swapped last year, and would like to verify what was put in there. How can I possibly do this?
To my knowledge, the mechanic (noticed I didn't use the word "technician") swapped engines with a known JDM VHD45E from a 90-96 Q45. However, I'd like to determine whether he might have put in a later G50 engine that doesn't require me to revisit the chain guide issue (wasn't aware of this time bomb at that time).
Well first let me backtrack, would it have been possible at all? Is it safe to assume that is not not possible since the '94-'96 had a detuned engine that is different from the '90-'93 VHD45E to ever make it work. By that, what I mean is wouldn't it require a set of other new components such as ECU, TCU and various other things that I'm not aware of in order for it to be in running condition? The fact that my car is running now makes me doubt that there's a '94-'96 engine sitting in there without additional upgrades, but I just need to get some sort of confirmation. If by chance I have a '94 and later engine, needless to say I would be saving thousands of dollars not spending on the chain guide replacement.
