i know a true usdm zenki vert does not exist but were the lucky japs blessed with a zenki vert (dual halogen sil front)?

in other words did nissan make a 89-90 jdm convertible?

There are pics in a thread I started called "Hitman & NICOmom's new ride".

It probably looked similar to the Infiniti M30 or Leopard.

The pics don't work in that thread so I can't tell what the car actually is.

The S13 convertible was never produced in Japan, so I don't know what you guys are talking about... ...the car was shipped to the US as a coupe and ASC did the conversion state-side for Nissan. The S13 convertible was ONLY a US-spec car... so there should not be any Zenki convertibles... right?

On the flip side, the Japs got S14 and S15 convertibles. Lucky them! I think my next car will be an S15 convertible. Haven't seen one in the states yet!

who told u this? kick them in the nuts

the jdm s13 vert is much cleaner than the usdm. the seat belts attach to the back of the car and not the doors, and the top is hidden when down.

The only S chassis I know that didn't get a convertible was the S14. Also, while ASC did the conversion for the US vert, they didn't get a coupe to do it on. Nissan made a chassis with no roof specifically for this run. If they didn't design the car to be a convertible, it would have folded in on itself. They also welded in supports and whatnot before sending the bare bones chassis to ASC for assembly. In my thread "Ever wonder why your convertible is so heavy?", you'll notice that some of the pages will say "installed by nissan" or "installed by ASC".

Well, no one in particular told me that information, it is just something I pieced together. I assumed that the car had been shipped as a coupe... but I am aware that Nissan reinforced the chassis before it was sent over. I assumed that ASC removed the roof... but either way, the car started life as a regular coupe on the assembly line before it was pulled off for convertible duty.

I heard someone talking about this before.. about a year ago. I believe that those S13 convertibles in Japan are NOT done by Nissan, but by an aftermarket company. Notice how there are no press photos anywhere of the Japanese convertible?

A friend of mine that lived in Japan for two years gave me the information that Nissan never made the S13 convert there... and he is a big-time Nissan enthusiast. I wish there was something I could spot in the photos that gave it away... but nothing stands out.

Hmmm.... I still stick to my guns, Nissan never produced an S13 convertible outside of the US.

Hmmm.. after a little more research I found this page:http://www.autospeed.com.au/cm...ticle

I yhave come across it before, but I noticed this part:Quote »What you see here is one of the very limited production S13 Silvia convertibles spat out by Nissan Japan; apparently, the convertible was built only during 1989.[/quote]

OK, I officially admit that I stuck my foot in my mouth. I have found a guy that sold an 88 Silvia convertible in 2003... here are pics. It looks like this is the legitimate thing. Now I want to know production numbers from Japan!

i think one of the problems is that since nissan farms the job out to outside companies, people start assuming that nissan had nothing to do with its limited run convertible lines.

I'm fairly certain that nissan designed the car without a top. Building a chassis with a top and then discarding it is too much waste for the automotive industry.

Well, I know that Nissan modified their design for the convertible before it was shipped from Japan, I just didn't know whether or not it was shipped with the roof intact or not. ASC does MANY custom convertible conversions starting with bone-stock cars... so I assumed that this car started more stock than not.

i just think that nissan wouldn't have wasted materials making a roof they knew was gonna get chopped off

it's easier for nissan (which means cheaper) to just build the car as a coupe and let some one else worry about cutting the roof off. the actual steel is a very small portion of the cost of a car.

looks like a targa top more than a vert. Supra style. I almost like it.

That targa top s14 just doesn't look right. There's way too much sticking up at the back for the front to be so empty. I'd much rather see a convertable.

I've always thought this is a stock color. According to you, there's no white s13 vert sold in Japan? I like 2 tone colors on this one.
