few questions that i need answers to. what are yalls opinions on wheel spacers? im picking up some 16x7s with a i dont know what size off set. theyre adr rims so its the usual size for universal fitment on most imports (theyre not rwd specific). i was thinking to make my car have a nicer stance i would bring them out just a little. im also considering putting 225/45 tires on the wheels. will these tires fit on the rims, and will they clear my coil overs? that is another thing i was thinking about getting spacers for, to clear my coil overs with that wide of a tire on the wheels. i was thinking to go with a 5 or 8 mm spacer. another thing, with these spacers, can i use the stock length studs? and where to find some decent spacers at for a decent price would be helpful also. thanks for any info :)

Spacers are a band-aid fix.

Buying wheels without knowing offset is like buying a car without ever turning the engine over. You won't know jack sh** until it's too late. You won't know if they fit until you test fit.

225/45-16 is almost 9" of section width, with a relatively short sidewall. It'll be a fun job to mount them, but you pay a shop to do that anyway. They won't know if it'll work until they mount one. It can be mounted. Should it be is another issue.

So, will they clear your coilovers? What offset are the wheels?

Spacers are the Devil's tool, but the rule of thumb is to have at least a minimum of equal-to-or-greater-than-stud-thickness for thread engagement.

If a wheel stud is 12mm thick, you need 12mm of thread engagement. Will you need longer studs? You won't know this until you test fit.

How much of this did you search for? Truth, now! If you didn't search, I'm certain that Chet will lock this after he verbally pounces all over you for not searching..

uh ok, better answer...

7" wide will fit 225's but it wont leave much room and it will leave you with sloppier feeling handling...dosent matter if you're driving on the street...the spacers are OK but you're gonna probably want like 25mm spacers if your wheels are +40 offset (which i'm assuming they are) the H&R spacers are good but 100 a set...200 for 4 corners. your best bet is buying good wheels to begin with to save money...just my $.02

ok... lock my reasonable post. thats really gay if youre gonna do that. these wheels im getting are only $50 and i just want a decent size rim to throw some decent tires on so i can go do some auto-x. i will be fitting the rims on there first just to see if they do fit. who in there right mind would buy rims wihtout knowing they fit? thats just retarded. dont people with stock SE rims put 225s on them? those are only 6.5'' wide rims (i think). i would like to hear back from people who are actually running 225s on there s14 with coilovers. if 225s wont work or arent a good choice to go with for auto-x on 7'' wide rims then im going with 215s for sure.

actually for autocross...you want some SMALL sidewalls and maybe even a small stretch...the BEST setup IMO would be a 205/45/17...225/45/17 fit perfectly on a 7 wide, i ran it for months and it was fine...sloppy but fine...just get a 195 or 205 and get a VERY good and grippy tire...R compound or just a straight up Hoosier race slick

There are times when spacers must be used. The company I am employed by uses them when it is neccessarry and we haven't had any problems yet. They have been used on extreme race applications as well (full track cars). I can have some made for you for 15 bucks or so to cover the cost of materials. I hate to see people pay what some places want to charge for spacers, it can be rediculous.

wow

all this **** is retarded

dude if you want to get spacers run them!

i know i do!!

http://www.wheelspacers.com tell them Adriel with the 240sx sent you

also

wheel spacers are fine, but only the bolt on type..not the type that sits on top of the stud and takes up space...thats not good. you want good bolt on ones and TORQUE THEM TO THE PROPER SPEC AND CHECK THEM AFTER EVERY DRIFT/TRACK/AUTOX DAY!

If you want a 16x7" rim and not have any problems put a 215/40 tire on it, and get something like a +30 offset

bam no problems no spacers..if you have coilover with a big bracket then you will need 5mm spacer, but if you have something like Kei Office XR or Zeal B6/S6 you'll be fine.

that is incorrect, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a flat spacer, it is essentially the same thing as having a thicker wheel. We produce flat spacers for applications where the backspacing requires it to clear brake upgrades, or for people wanting a set of 4 wheels of the same size, but the fronts require a different offset, we will give them spacers to use, that way they are interchangeable front and rear. Our spacers are made out of the same material as our billet center caps and our wheels, there is absolutely nothing with them and have over 100 sets of them floating around. They are on street apps all the way to full blown trans am race cars.

thats great to hear. Come on by, I'll give you a tour. Also, make sure you double check that your dad has been to our new location. We moved out of the dinky old building and into a 35k sq ft facility, so we own half a block now, lol. As far as pricing, give us a call and ask for Stephen (me). That will remind me to cehck with the big boss man (john) on pricing (he is out at lunch right now) on the spacers. I'll need to know what size and bolt pattern you need also.

not to knock your product or anything

sandwhich type spacers just take up wheel stud thread length

so how is that like a wider wheel? having a wider wheel is having the bolt area machined with the proper offset in relation to the hub...having a sandwhich spacer is changing the offset of you rhub and subtracting stud length allowing for an improper lugnut seat

so how is it having a wider wheel again when all it does is "push" the wheel out??

http://www.wheelspacers.com will set you up with some nice bolt on ones that will never fail.

those look like they basically do the exact same thing except it gives you a proper stud length. am i missing something here?

i think this is a very good thread. i've been thinking of the same thing since i will most likely be going with coilovers sometime in the summer. my front wheels dont have much clearance to my struts. i was planning on getting nismo studs and a spacer. not sure what size i need yet. i have an 8" wheel in front with a 35 offset. i think i need about an 8mm spacer too.

Spacers aren't generally thick enough to take away enough threading to be a problem. Think about how little threading is used to hold those bolting spacers onto the hub. Also, we have longer studs available when needed, which are ARP and stronger than the stock ones. A set of spacers with longer studs is STILL cheaper than those threaded spacers. We use spacers when the stock forging doesn't have enough material to give the backspace required to clear brakes and fit on a certain application. There is a small number of applications that will require longer studs to give the right amount of thread, I stress how small that number is. Your recommendation introduces one more breakable part, extra weight, and an extra cost, and is solely based on the assumption that the 240 is one of the very few vehicles that can't run a spacer without a longer stud. Do you think every aftermarket wheel has the same lug seat depth? Do you think that lug seat depth happens to be the exact same as the stock wheel? Your losing/gaining available stud thread by changing out the wheels period.

It's all about the source...

But it's hard to convince some that they infact DON'T know everything.

its actually being discussed right now. The only thing holding back is that our product is priced higher than most of the 240 community (not knocking on the 240 community, i own one, lol) wants to pay for wheels. Its a matter of demographics. I came on the forum with hopes of just helping people out with their current wheel questions, and help push my buddy chris at underground since hes given me bad *** service, not really to push CCW. I am considering bringing up advertising though, since the 240 is getting more popular, alot of the richer boy-racer type guys are buying them. Since we are the most well respected wheel in the racing community, the 240 might fall into our demographic soon. A couple months ago I was even looking at the 240sx convention and being the official sponsor, but someone nabbed it up and all the other good sponsorship spots already, so thats out for now. Maybe next year.

ok, good, i wasnt missing anything. thats exactly what i thought the difference between the two are. and the concept you have is also exactly what i was thinking too. why pay more for something that you dont even need? thanks steve, and im still going to let you know around this weekend what i need.

let me know where your staying in new samyrna. We can chill, I'll take the drive out there with a surfboard (I'll borrow one from a friend or something, lol) and we can make pathetic attempts to impress chicks with it and then come back on here and tell everyone we rocked *** at the beach! :ylsuper

im totally gonna mooch off your *** if you got a condo! :) I'm horrible at surfing though. My buddy tried showing me. I could lie on the board and attempt to swim out (and wabble around and fall off alot) and almost sit up (but most of the time the nose stuck way out of the water). He wouldn't let me attempt to surf on his board until I could sit on it correctly, so I never got to surf on it, lol.
