So, i got in to work today and got a nice talking to by the boss.

Last Saturday a kid that goes to the karate school right next to us touched the exhaust on my motorcycle and got burned.

Here's what happened.

I park my bike right in front of the shop on the sidewalk. The walkway is ~6ft. My bike takes up ~2ft of this walkway. I put it here so it is protected from the elements, both rain and sunshine.

I have parked it there for about two months. Never had any issues. In fact I have had many compliments on it.

I don't typically work on saturdays, so this was unusual. I ride ~30 minutes to work and park my bike. Apparently on saturday the school has class ~10am. I got to work ~9:55 and parked my bike.

So when the kids were around it was still hot(it is cold within 30 minutes).

Little bobby walked by my bike and decides to run his grubby little hands down the length of my bike. He did not bump in to the exhaust, he intentionally touch my bike. The mother confirmed this story!

So, the kid was burned on his hand. Nothing major, just hurt him some. The mother proceeds to complain to the owner of the school. He in turn talks to my boss who talks to me.

Unfortunately this is a small shopping center so we would like to keep the peace. I told the boss I should just put a sign on my bike that says, "Hot! Don't touch other people's $hit!"

What really sucks is that I get to work at noon on weekdays. The school has class around 5pm. So my bike is cold by then normally, but now because of this one incident I can't park my bike on the walkway anymore.

Oh, and the owner of the strip mall was fine with it being parked there.

So in short:

Kid touches hot exhaust on purposeMother defends kids stupidity

I say next time you get your exhaust really hot, and then get a sign pointing to it that will say "Touch to receive candy!"

Classic kid trap!

Man, I was hoping this was going to be a story about your family...

Seriously though, most parents will always defend their kids. Such is life. If a kid gets hurt, I think it's pretty tough for the parent to place blame on them. I don't have kids, though, so I might be way off.

Read the story and I think it is BS. But for the sake of causing a scene, I would just park in a parking space. You weren't wrong but this way if some one touches it, there is absolutely 0 fault to you.

Also growing up, the first words were, what did you do now. Then my parents listened to the story. Then asked me for an explanation. Then if it was a 50-50 situation, then it would be my fault.

In this case, my parents wouldn't bother any one. They would of just bumped me in the back of the head and said "Why would you touch that man's bike? Now let's go home and take care of this burn."

EDIT:Then they would apologize on my behalf.

Well, some of us might just have reasonable parents. And that probably leads us to be better people.

But, look how dumb the average person is. Due to that, I don't find this surprising at all. For the record, my parents would have tanned my hide for putting my grubby mitts on someone else's possessions.

Oh, boo hoo Brian. You can't park illegally anymore. You now have to park the way the law intended, like everyone else.

I say park the bike as close to the door of the school as possible (in a spot) with a sign (or hang the sign on the building) that says, "Warning to negligent parents: Due to a complaint, your children should refrain from intentionally touching the exhaust pipe on this vehicle."

In terms of things you would *actually* do, I can't think of much that wouldn't potentially cost you your job by causing a bigger issue, but I agree that this parental intervention crap can get pretty out of hand.

I've smacked people off of other people's vehicles before. There are some people who respect other people's stuff and help others understand it too.

I actually like this suggestion. The sign cuts straight to the point! I may do this

This is a strip mall. There is a single owner that leases the individual units out to different companies.

The OWNER of the property permitted me to park my bike in front of our shop on the walkway.

And I think you misunderstood.

The boss is the owner of the company I work for. He leases the building from the owner of the property.

When I was a much younger, I sat on my older brother's bike while it was on its kickstand and when it was still warm... I pretended like I was driving it, but i guess when i turned the front wheel it caused the bike to fall over and pin me under it, burning my leg on the exhaust. Somehow we both got in trouble, not sure how that worked out.

Since then I've owned several bikes and burned myself on them several times... People need to do these things so they learn. What kind of person would you be if you grew up not knowing exhausts were hot.

Yes, no doubt. I credit my parents for raising me into an upstanding young man. I grew up with kids whose parent's defended them through it all; wrong or right. You see it on the news all the time, too. So yea, no surprise here.

On this note...

The other night I was hanging with some friends, when this guy just decides to use my car as a leaning post.

Now, my car isn't in mint condition, but it's in pretty decent condition, and I certainly don't want it to get any worse. The mirrors are fragile, and paint is easily scratched.

How do I tell people to gtfo, without coming across as a d!ck?

well you could simply explain the situation about your car. if he doesn't understand or is just ignorant, then that's too bad, but he still needs to get off.

See, I feel differently about this situation.

If you two were talking by the car and he leaned on it it'd be ok to me, but if he was talking to someone else and you were nowhere around then this would be disrespectful

Ask him to walk. Be nice. If he won't walk, walk him. But be nice. If you can't walk him, one of the others will help you, and you'll both be nice.

ok here is what you do: you see the guy sitting on your car (this only works if you have an alarm that is kind of noisy or can some how stealth your way in the car and honk the horn) if you cant get in the car or have an alarm you stand were you have a clear view of him but are still unnoticed by said person then when he is the middle of a sentence hit the panic button or what ever to make the alarm go off and watch as the guy nearly s***s his pants and everyone laughs. at least thats what I did when a bunch of idiots were in the parking lot of a mall near me chillin on the tail gate of my truck, funny s***t
