So for those of you who don't know about it, the people who made Band of Brothers & Saving Private Ryan have made a new 10 part series following the exploits of a company of Marines during the Pacific Theatre of WWII. The series starts this Sunday, I'm super psyched to watch it being a giant military history fan.

Looks like there's another giant box set that I'll have to get when it comes out.

Yeah I'll definitely be watching. BoB was very very good. I love the way it and Saving Private Ryan were shot. Very gritty.

" Dear Frederick,Thank you for your nice letter but I am actually a U.S. Marine, who was born to kill. Clearly you have mistaken me for some wine sipping communist d!ck suck and although peace probably appeals to tree loving bisexuals like you and your parents. I happen to be a death dealing blood crazed warrior who wakes up everyday, just hoping for the chance to dismember my enemies and defile their civilizations. Peace sucks a hairy ***hole Freddy war is the motherf***ing answer"

They devoted 3 or 4 episodes to Peleliu.

I just watched the first part this morning (I DVR'd it) and while it started off slow, it really picked up towards the end of the episode and I was extremely upset that it ended, I can't wait to see the next part.

It seems like it is lacking the character development that the first episode of BoB had.

They started out in training, becoming "Tacoa Men"... this one just kinda throws the characters at you.

Damn I wish I had Cable and HBO right about now. BoB is one of my favorites. I actually just bough the Blu-Ray version and hid the DVD version so the GF won't know I spent $60 to replace a series we already own. But if there is any show I want in HD, BoB was it. We watched the series in BD last week and she didn't notice despite an entirely new menu and a bunch of the warnings at the beginning stating it Blu-Ray on it.

I was thinking the same thing. Still a good enough episode to make me want to watch the next episode.

Did anyone else notice that one of the characters' name is JP Morgan? The one NCO's brother said his name when they were toasting at the dinner table for Christmas dinner.

Yeah I did, and then I realized I forgot what JP Morgan even was... but thought it was a bank or credit union or something. I'm weird like that.

I'll probably get it once it comes out on DVD.

I'll still like Band Of Brothers more but I will definitely enjoy this.

I was looking forward to watching it, but I discovered that I don't currently have HBO. I don't watch much TV, but when I asked my roommate if we got HBO and he said no, I told him that if he's paying $160 a month for cable/internet and doesn't get HBO he is getting ripped off (IMO anyway). Anyway, I will definitely be catching it later.

Honestly, while I'm sure this'll be a great show, I'm so sick of movies, TV, games, everything set in WWII that I really have no interest in watching it. There ARE other interesting settings.

Vietnam was to controversial for games to touch (and they usually suck), Korea gets no love because it never really ended and honestly besides the battle for Inchon I couldn't tell you anything significant that happened. The Gulf war is still to fresh and anything dealing with Iraq and Afghanistan, while fresh and pseudo controversial is covered by the mass media and the amateur photo/videographer alike, so there really is no reason to make a big production for it when you can just watch it from the comfort of your laptop.

^ Exactly. I don't know if I'm right here but from what I remember there is an estimated 1 million deaths from Afghanistan and Iraq since 2001. For World War II there was 60 million deaths between 1939 and 1945. Our countries current war has gone on longer than World War II but has had 1/60 of the amount of deaths. I think WWII is covered so much because of the disbelief in what happened. When I watched the first episode of Pacific, the part where they were just mowing down Japanese soldiers and that last one started screaming and running around unarmed. It just makes you think of how f***ed up things were during that time.
